cold baby's breath

tiny and sweet, pink and little
so new to me, beautifully created
with tiny grasping fingers
you claw for me, and i drew you close
big beautiful grey eyes, with round face
you gurgle and spit and kick with life
i lied you down for sleep, left you healthy and happy
but upon return.....
my heart retches and fear builds in my throat
your skin was blue and gray
no babies breath blew
callously and heartwretchingly you were taken
i didn't even have a chance to save you
or myself, self-redemption had no chance
you were gone, snuffed out, death met too soon
rational has no affect on the broken mind
and as i clutched your dead body to me
i screamed and begged for your return
i made so many promises, just for you
and they went unheeded,
and you were not returned
and all i had was my once vibrant creation
now limp, cold and pallid to hold
