Stratos Ltd applied and the consortium is being co-fincanced for this 1.7 million Euro EU project. The program aims at contributing to the sustainable regional development, exploiting the advantages of the biomass district heating technology. More specifically the advantages of the biomass district heating technology are summarised as follows:

Substitution of conventional, non-renewable fuels, by the renewable biomass.

Reduction of the dependence from foreign energy sources.

Increase of employment, which will help people to stay in rural areas.

Promotion of the regional development.

A favourable environmental impact since the use of biomass, as a fuel, does not contribute in the increase of CO2 and SO2. 

Exploitation of the local or national agricultural potential.

Motivation for other biomass applications (e.g. transport sector).

The use of biomass in district heating systems is one of the most important applications of biomass in the field of energy production.
