Hi,
The attached document is self-explanatory. I appreciate your comments /
feedback etc.
Eric Lim
PROPOSED MOUNTAIN BIKING RANCH / DIRT CAMP
I am a keen follower of outdoor recreational activities, including mountain-biking. Presently I own a piece of 10-acre orchard land at Ulu Langat (Semenyih) --- an area famous for its beautiful jungle reserves, waterfalls, paved and off-road bike trails etc.
The land’s undulating terrain and hilly areas are exceptionally good for mountain-biking at all skill-levels. There are more than 100 mature fruit-trees, a few fishing ponds. Beautiful bike trails (double-tracks or single-tracks) are ready in place or can be readily constructed.
It is my dream to convert this private property into a private Mountain Biking Ranch / Dirt Camp and eventually to become one of the most beautiful and exciting Mountain Biking Ranch / Dirt Camp in this part of the world that could adequately serve the diverse need of the MTB sports-lovers, while preserving the beautiful ecology of the area in full compliance with IMBA etc. etc.
At this beginning stage of the project and to ensure its proper implementation, I deem it essential that I get the widest possible participations / comments / suggestions from all relevant players in this exciting sport.
I therefore cordially invite you to visit the proposed site, do a bash-run, or get involve in any other forms (even including venture-capital / angel-capital?!). Please contact the undersigned for further details / appointments for viewing / personal discussions etc:

Hello. I found a link to my site at http://www.oocities.org/RainForest/Vines/6082/bikelinks.html.
I am proud and pleased. Bad news is that my long-established website url went belly-up recently when my host server company did the same. Good news is that I now have my own domain so this will NEVER happen again.
Please change the link for "The Bicycling Guitarist" from http://www.thegrid.net/thebicyclingguitarist to http://www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net.
Hey, I sling a strat too! Cool e-mail moniker you have!

Hi Gang,
Just a little note here to let you know that we are doing some great things at Kooka.
Let me first give you a little background info on myself. I have been working in the bicycle industry for well over a decade now. I started as a mechanic, worked retail, managed a store, managed a wholesale warehouse, and then handled the U.S. opperations for a small internet company. When this oppertunity at Kooka came up, I jumped at the chance.
Kooka's reputation was founded on our lightweight and colourfull XC components. Over the last few years we have also designed some top notch DH/FR bike parts that are sought after by the most extreme of riders. I am here to make sure that we keep going in that same direction. Bringing out new products, keeping up with current trends, and upgrading our current colours and sizes are my main goals for the upcoming months.
So keep your eyes peeled both to our website and here for some exciting updates on what's happening at Kooka Components.

(Your site) is a terrific compendium of information. I'm sure it's a labor of love. Thanks for doing it!
Your 2001 archive is virtually unreadable, however, as the background image works against the black text.
Would you consider doing any of the following?
Turn down the brightness/contrast on the source image? Change the font color to something more easily read against the alternating light and dark portions of the photo? Change the image?
Way to go otherwise...

I have read and enjoyed a number of articles on your website, and also followed various links from your site to find a number of very useful sites. It occured to me that it might be useful to make some of the technical investigations I've done into chain-suck more accessible to other bikers around the world.
Chain-suck is an odd problem which mainly affects mountain bikers, but can also affect road bikers. It causes the chain to bind solidly to the chain ring, and the cyclist then often falls off the bike.
I have researched chain-suck in some detail and written a set of linked articles about it. These articles form a long-term technical resource and reference on the subject matter.
You may be interested in adding a link from your website to the site where I publish the articles.

Subject: Handlebar for downhill
Date: Thu, 15 Mar 2001 11:41:53 +0800
Hi came across your web page and it's great. The web page contains a lot of informations and great stuff.I'm a beginner in mountain biking and recently bought a bike with Rocky Mountain frame and RST fork. It's quite good as i'm a beginner. I'm thinking of changing my handle bar.Mine is a normal straight handle bar and i've to bend my body a lot when riding. It's quite comfortable during flat road. Since i like to go off road and doing downhill,i don't really feel comfortable doing downhill bending my body (usually i stand up doing downhill). So what i need to know is, what is the best handle bar for downhill ?What is the different between straight bar and the downhill bars or the uprise bar? Thanks.
Regards,
Andy Tan
RSM: Okay, basically a riser bar should offer a more comfortable and controllable ride than would a flat bar. Depending on your budget, you can get one that'll cost anything from RM20 (no-name Taiwanese-made bar) to RM280 (like the Easton Monkey Lite bar I have on my full-suspension GT). The more you spend, the lighter and more durable the bar.
Generally, you can't go wrong with names like Titec, Syncros, Easton and Bontrager. For an opinionated and cautionary take on the topic, here's Keith Bontrager. Also check out the selection of top-grade bars here.

Subject: Biking Info

hi...came across your site on mountain biking...I used to enjoy riding my mountain bike, a Jeep brand bike..when I was a teenager i.e 10 years ago..and now I am settled down and I intend to start biking again..I would like if you could suggest some tips on buying a bike for me and my wife, I am staying in Ampang, Bukit Antarabangsa which is hilly and cool. Thanks again and hope to hear from you again...
RSM: Now's a great time to get into mountain biking as the bikes have gotten better and offer more bang for the buck as well. You'd have to spend at least about RM2,000 to get a durable hardtail, but you can still get a decent bike for half that amount through a bit of shrewd shopping.
There're three great retail outlets in KL -- Bike Pro in Taman Megah and KSH Bicycle in Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Taman Megah -- which not only offer an incredible range but also bikes that are competitively priced.
There's a shop near where you live run by ex-national cycling coach Ng Joo Ngan, but though he has some top-notch stuff, his prices are on the high side.
Some (subjective) pointers on getting the best deal:
1. Get the best frame, suspension fork and wheels for the money. That means, even if you settle for a stock machine from GT, Specialized, Trek or any of the other big names, make sure the frame is at least made of double-butted aluminium (7005 is common, 6061 is better, lighter and more expensive), the fork is at least a Rock Shox Judy C (it'll be worthwhile to upgrade from something like Rock Shox's low-end Jett or one of the Taiwan-made RST shocks if the bike you're considering comes with it), and the wheels are built on Shimano hubs with at least a 9-speed rear hub.
2. Sizing is crucial. While most experienced bikers will advise you to get the smallest frame that fits you, you have to bear in mind that small bikes can be inefficient for long-distance riding or hill-climbing. If you need modifications for the right fit -- a longer/shorter stem, riser bar instead of a flat bar and so on -- don't hesitate to tell the dealer.
3. Try to make sure the drivetrain has at least some Shimano Deore/LX 9-speed parts, including the shifters, rear derailleur and cassette.
4. Get a helmet, gloves, a jersey and biking shorts (total about RM300 to RM400) when you buy the bike. You will really appreciate the comfort and confidence they offer.

Happy Trails!

Hi there,
I don't know your name but I like your site. I was looking at
your page under the category RainForest on Geocities. I could
not help noticing how unique it was. I have seen many other
RainForest related pages, but none as compelling as yours.
Like you, I am also a person who is also very interested in the
subject of the environment. I have been heavily interested in
the environment all my life, but just recently got involved. I
am 25 and live in California. I consider myself lucky because
there are so many evironmental related activities that go on
here.
I would appreciate an email back from you. Tell me a little
about yourself and why you decided to build your great site. I
have been thinking of building one of my own, but it's so
intimidating. I don't claim to know a whole lot about computers.
Since I have visited your site however, I have a lot more
confidence to do it. Can you give me a few pointers?
Hey I got to run now, but I sincerely hope you take the time to
reply back.

Subject: From Norway - what should I do?
Date: Sun, 14 May 2000 22:59:11 +0200
Hello Khabar,
(If this mail did`t reach Khabar, would you please mail me back and tell me. thank you!!!)
my name is Stein Ekstang and I live in Norway. The reason that I am writing to you is:
I spend a lot of time on my bike, I have only one bike, not three like you, but I enjoy it. My bike is old and I would very much like to buy a new one. I am a student and do not have a lot of money to spent, but I try to get as much as I can for my money, if you know what I mean...bikes are very expensive in Norway.
That is why I am writing to you. I believe that a bike is cheaper in your country than in Norway and since you live there, you know where and what that is smart to buy so you get as much as possible for the money.
I have been searching a lot for bikeshops on the internet but the do not have very good internet pages.
Therefore I would like to ask you if you could give me some advice or maybe help me to get in touch with the right persons! Of course, if you do not have the time or if you are on your way out for a ride on the bike forget this mail!
If you are able, what I would like to buy is a bike that at least has front suspension with no lower than LX equipment, I do not know all the details you have mentioned a lot about your bikes. It has to be able to be driven both on trail-terrain and on the road, since I only have one.
I am quite tall, 192 cm, so I guess I need a large bike...
You mentioned about your bike, GT LTS-2000DS, that you built it up – I think I am able to do that to.
Sorry, I'll stop there...
Thank you for your time, and if you answer!
Enjoy your time with your bike there`s nothing like it !!!
All the best from Norway,
Stein Ekstang
