“Okita! Okita-san, hurry!”
Her voice was not quite a shrill, more of a plea as she shouted across the barely lit road. The child was bent down by the reeds of a small lake, large eyes staring out as they glow a bit in reflection of the small lightning bug. She smiled wide watching it. The sound of sandals on gravel increased as the figure ran to catch up to her. Panting for only a moment the child-like man knelt down behind her, slim arms sliding under the girl’s arms.
“You’re late!”
“Ah, gomen Yuu-chan, I was finishing up some decorations. So have you caught any yet?”
“Iie, was waiting for you!” She laid her head back smiling up to him.
“Well thank you then.” The soft smile was returned.
His hands slid under his as he lifted the small palms upwards.
“The way for them to come to you is to think like one of them. Make glowing noises to attract them.”
“Okita-san, I can’t make noises that aren’t there.”
“Exactly.”
She purses her lips and leans back against him, trying to figure out what he meant. There were times when these types of puzzles kept her in thought for days on end. As she thought though, a small glow landed on the tip of her finger. The small black bug crawled from fingertip to fingertip and Yuudachi smiled feeling the little feet move against her skin. She was distracted though as a second one landed upon Okita’s thumb. The two lights pulsated slowly between each other before moving across Yuudachi’s palms to meet. She slowly closed her hands around the two of them, bringing her hands to her nose. Her eyes widened as she uncoupled her hands, a wide smile forming as the two did not leave.
“Can you hear them?”
She tilted her ear towards them, then shook her head lightly.
“You’re using the wrong sense to listen.”
Large orbs blinked as she closed her eyes. Within a few moments she smiled and nodded against his chest. “I can hear them now…”
She felt the warmth of his arms around her, holding her tightly to him. The stillness of the night was only intensified by the purely calm and peaceful feeling she had within her soul along with the warm feeling within her heart.
