Eric Segerson graced the world with his presence on
July 20, 1978 in Maryland, living in Maryland until
present day. Eric is the second of three children
in the Segerson household. Growing up, his two
sisters were as opposite as can be, the older
sister and him always fighting, the younger sister
and him always playing together.
Since there were not many kids Eric's age in the neighborhood, he had a somewhat solitary childhood, spending his days with his little sister, exploring in the forest, or in his room reading or drawing. He joined the Cub Scouts and, later, the Boy Scouts. There, he advanced through the ranks and earned the rank of Eagle Scout*.
It was discovered very early that Eric had quite a talent for drawing, as his drawings in elementary school were a step above everyone else's pictures. In middle school, his notebooks were covered with cartoons and doodles. When he entered high school, he enrolled in an art studio class with Mr. Perrine. Attending his class for four full years, Eric learned and mastered the finer points of artwork.
It was in 11th grade that Eric was first introduced
to the art of computer programming. His life was
changed from that point onward; he fell in love
with programming. His teacher, Mr. Hahne,
considered him one of his top protégés, designing
programs that went above and beyond what was taught
in class and expected of him.
After graduation, Eric enrolled in a community college with a Computer Science major. After two years there, he enrolled at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where he is currently. In December of 2000, he will earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. After he graduates, he wants to get a job either programming computer applications, or designing websites. At this point in college, Eric has had a hand in seven websites, three of his own, one for his Boy Scout troop, one for an architectural firm, one for his Uncle's company, and one for his family*.
Eric first began drawing cartoons when he was 9
years old. At the time, they were simple things,
but it was the start of a quick climb upward in
skill. In middle school, he began drawing
one-frame comic strips in pencil with
fine-art-quality shading. For kicks, he made
caricatures of his teachers, which most times drew
mixed emotions from their targets. In high school,
he continued to draw one-frame comics and
caricatures. In addition, though, he began his
first comic book starring a new character he then
just created. It was here, with the classes he
started taking with Mr. Perrine, that his artistic
ability soared. In 11th grade, Eric began drawing
comic strips for the school newspaper, earning him
wide acclaim.
Now in college and immersed in the science of computers, Eric has little time for drawing or cartooning, save for the time required to pump out a comic strip every month for his Boy Scout troop's newsletter. He still has hopes that one day he will publish one of his comic books. He is currently looking for an agent to represent him.
