Margie Hatch
Biographical Sketch
Family:
- Born Margie Ann Morley on July 18, 1936 the third of ten children born to Earl and Edith Morley of Colesburg,
Iowa.
- Attended elementary grades in a one room rural school on Elk Creek. I had to walk four to five miles to and from
school. Graduated from High School at Edgewood, Iowa in 1954.
- After graduation I became a dental assistant. Worked on finishing my associate degree.
- Met Sergeant David Hatch and married February 7, 1960 at the Congregational church in Edgewood, Iowa.
- To this union two children were born: Connie Jo who gave us a grandson Joshua David Holcomb, and Lori Ann
Brown who has given us two grandchildren Anna Elizabeth and Arthur.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa:
- I started to bowl in league competition during the 1965 season at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A member of the Cedar
Rapids Bowling Association Executive Board until 1980, when we transferred to Atlanta with my company,
Rockwell International.
- A member of the Cedar Rapids Women's Bowling Association. Held offices of Director and Sergeant At Arms,
and served as a delegate to many of the national bowling conventions. Held league offices and bowled three times
each week. Was an active youth coach. 1975 Bowler of the Year.
- Have been instrumental in getting new bowlers to start bowling.
Duluth, Georgia:
- Transferred to Georgia to be the production engineer for the Hell Fire and GBU missiles that we built for the
Federal Government.
- I bowled three times a week at Brunswick Gwinnett, Brunswick Peachtree and Fairlanes Chamblee.
- Became a weekend tournament bowler:
- Came in third at the 225 Tournament at Augusta.
- Won the State 600 inside-outside scratch and handicap.
- Won the double diamond at Fairlanes Gwinnett.
- Won Mitch Michell's TBA tournament three times, at Express Lanes, Sandysprings and Suburban.
- Inducted in TBA hall of fame.
- Won the Millers doubles at Forest Park.
- Organized the woman's ABA at Brunswick Gwinnett.
- Placed several times in Southern Bowling Association Tournaments.
- Won many doubles tournaments.
- Have been instrumental in getting new bowlers to start bowling.
Athens, Georgia:
- Currently the secretary of three leagues.
- Bowl five leagues a week.
- 1999-2000 Director of the Georgia State Senior Women's Tournament and the Georgia State Senior Men's
Tournament.
- A youth coach and a member of the YABA Board.
- Served as Vice-president and Secretary of the Athens Women's Bowling Association.
- Have been instrumental in getting new bowlers to bowl.
- Bowled all the AWBA association tournaments since bowling at Showtime Bowl in Athens.
Georgia State Women's Bowling Association:
- A state director.
- Committees: Secretary of the Year and State Senior Tournament.
Personal Highs:
- High Average: 192 (book average).
- High Series: 698.
- High Game: 289.
My Involvement With The Bowler Is Very Important To My Retirement Life.
