Association of Language Learning (ALL) Lectures
22 January 2003
For a second year the school has hosted the ALL (Association of Language Learners) Sixth Form Lectures. We were joined by staff and pupils from Denmark Road, Ribston Hall, Chosen Hill, Newent, St. Peter's, Bournside and St. Edwards. Their support and interest have enabled us to run the event.
The French lecture, delivered by Françoise Tidball of
UWE, Bristol, gave a very detailed account of the problems of delinquency in
France, its causes and the measures being introduced to combat the problem.
It was an extremely well researched lecture, carefully presented with much thought
given to the linguistic level of our pupils.
This was followed by a German lecture on drugs, alcohol and obesity. The lecturer,
Dorothea Martin, an experienced television presenter for Berlin television,
gave a lively account of the problems, illustrating her talk with jokes and
songs.
It was a privilege to listen to native speakers and to experience their insight and knowledge. We are most grateful to them.
