Un pont vers le passé

 9 May 2002

On 9th May, students of French in years 8 and 10 were joined by pupils from Oxtalls School and Barnwood Park to watch a performance of 'Un Pont vers le Passé' by the European Theatre Company. Set in an 'auberge' during the festival, Mathilde, left behind in Avignon by her friends, who are all on holiday, is transported back through time by an indignant ghost after uttering 'si seulement ma vie était différente!' Mathilde discovers that in comparison to what went before, she really has a very easy life!

There was plenty of audience participation. Philip Hanson played a very convincing friend to Mathilde, James Fleming played a backpacker while Michael Joyce was 'a man with a dog' and Richard Ellison made a very attractive older woman! Some year eight pupils then provided some graceful actions whilst the audience sang along to the tune of 'Sur le Pont d'Avignon.
