Europe Day - "Europe - Present and Future"
9 May 2002
As part of the celebrations for Europe Day at Sir Thomas Rich's School we were privileged to welcome Lord Stockton. One of the region's seven MEP's and one of only 2 UK MEP's serving on the European Convention, Lord Stockton gave Sixth Formers an insight into the work of the European Parliament, the role of an MEP and the future of the EU. This was followed by a very lively question and answer session. Trade embargos, a European Super State, voter apathy, the new flag, relationships with America, National Service and the Euro all came under discussion and pointed to the interest of the pupils who clearly appreciated the knowledge, skill and wit of Lord Stockton. We were grateful for the support of Pates' Grammar School at this event.
