Process design and control
The heart of every industrial activity is the process itself. Many
problems are the result of not proper design or lack of adequate control
during operation. We are specialized in production design and control for
various processes, ranging from paper and recycled paper products to dairy
products. Our work includes technology selection, process design (flow
sheet), machinery selection, control instrumentation. For the various
processes we have co-operations with specialized engineers and other
scientists that are highly experienced in each process.

Quality management systems
The ISO 9000
standards series, provide the guidelines for the design of quality management
systems (QMS). These are powerful management tools when properly implemented.
Additionally, QMS are marketing tools and, in some cases, a customer's demand.
Our philosophy is
guided by the principle that the standards are packages of directions and not
limitations, meaning that their flexibility should be exploited by individual
enterprises in order to design the most suitable QMS, used to facilitate and not
impede production processes or services. This simple point is the key element of
every successful QMS.
"We can not
teach you how to do your job better, cause we don't know your job better than
you do. We can only make suggestions on an alternative management scheme"
Environmental management systems
Having the same characteristics with the QMS the environmental management
systems (EMS) focus on the environmental impacts control and graduate
reduction through a systematic approach that tries to consolidate
compatibility between environmental protection projects and business
flourishing.
The
main tools for the design and implementation of EMS are the ISO 14001
standard and the EU 1836/93 regulation (Environmental Management and
Auditing Scheme - EMAS). A well-designed EMS should focus on:
-
reduction of consumed raw materials
- energy and fossil fuel control
- process water management and recycling
- law compliance
- continuous, documented improvement of environmental aspects
- public information availability
Via
an EMS the legal and, romantic as it may sound, ethical requirements for
protection of the environment and environmental impacts management can be
transformed to a management tool with operational benefits and marketing
perspective.

Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points
(HACCP)
A
law requirement, for EU countries, based on the EU 93/43 directive. It
concerns the safety of eatable and drinkable products and affects the
whole structure of the foods and beverages industry. Although in Greece
there are many things to be determined (p.e. who controls the production
plants and how) things will be moving really fast and many industries or
small enterprises may face the danger of shutdown if the requirements of
the directive are not met. For the moment many industries proceed to the
creation of the HACCP scheme in terms of technical requirements and wait
for further developments. The main points of a HACCP study are:
-
registration of all raw materials and creation of specification catalogues
in co-operation with the suppliers
-
identification of potential dangers
-
identification of process control points (CP) identification of critical
control points (CCP)
-
definition of preventive and corrective actions
From
some aspects HACCP has the characteristics of a management system, since
it strongly demands documentation and responsibilities definitions. In
most cases HACCP schemes and QMS should be integrated to produce a really
powerful management and process control system.
