The Background of SRB St. Theresa Padungan.

Year 1996
SRB St. Theresa Padungan, Kuching is situated next to St. Peter's Church, Padungan, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It is also located behind Bangunan Yun Phin at Jalan Padungan. There is a small stream flowing beside the school and small crabs can be found along its banks.

School lessons were first taught on 20th January 1940 with only 80 pupils and 3 teachers. Its first headmaster was Headmistress Rev. Mother Sebastian from 1939 to 1941.

From 1942 to 1945 the school was closed by the Japanese. It was reopened in 1946 with 160 pupils, 3 sisters (nuns) and the Headmaster by the name of Rev. Padre Harry Van Erp.

Today there are 12 classrooms with 23 teachers, a clerk, a typist, 2 groundsmen and a Headmistress. There are about 600 pupils studying in this school.
Year 2003.
This year our school has only about 501 pupils. The Headmaster is Cikgu Willie Chiak Mong. He is a very experienced Headmaster.St. Theresa School is a very popular school in Kuching as its pupils will continue their secondary education in SMB St. Joseph and SMB St. Teresa. It has constantly done well in the UPSR Examinations.
