He is the remaining member of his long forgotten species, and when we first see him, the scientist Hojo is trying to mate him with Aeris to keep both their species in existance so that they can still be studied in the future. First thought of by the characters as just an animal, they are quickly surprised when they find out that he is an intelligent creature that can speak. They later find out more about him when they visit his home town, Cosmo Canyon.
