3/22/07 McDonalds seeks to redefine McJobs, but why not redefine fast food employment standards?

PA passport clerk faces 18 counts of identity theft, not to mention the RFID's.

Shouldn't we demand transparency in our police force, and suitable punishment?

Finally, let's get real.

3/20/07 The Iraq War is four years old today, rejoice.
In much better news, we're having a meeting for the Scranton Earth Day Celebration on Monday at 8:30pm, if you would like to attend, and a vegan brunch fundraiser for said event on Sunday April 1st from 10am-2pm ($5-$10, sliding scale).

P.S. Why has Marywood forbidden DC Indymedia on their computers?

3/15/07 Specter slipped it in, Gonzales worked it,
and now critics say "get out."

Chiquita hires paramilitaries? Sounds familiar.

3/14/07 Police lie?

3/13/07 Saturday is the march on the Pentagon; I believe there is one seat available on the bus if you want it and possibly some car seating available.

Monday Scranton FOR is hosting two vigils against the Iraq War at Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton at NOON and at 7pm for those who want to attend; I plan on walking down from the MU commons like we did in October (meet me there at 11am). One FOR member recommended bringing drums (though I'm sure any type of noise-maker, as well as signs, costumes, etc. would be appreciated).

Someone just told me about some amazing photographs, taken in Sudan, being exibited at Wilkes University.

3/12/07 Protest today, school your campus next week.

3/1/07 This sounds like a call to action to me.

2/23/07 SATURDAY

Also, plastic bags for sale and field hands needed (despite anti-immigration banter).

2/22/07 mhm.

2/21/07 A meeting about a Marywood walkout against the Iraq War will be held on Monday Feb. 26th at 9pm in LAC 115.

There will also be a bus to the march on the Pentagon leaving at 6am on March 17th and returning later that evening at a cost of $35/person; email Katie.

2/20/07 This Thursday at noon:

(Gather to encourage Congress to block the escalation as letters are delivered by consituents around the country; hold up signs, listen to speakers, etc. Email studentapa@yahoogroups for ride share info).
I also thought some of you might be interested in this study on The Daily Show

2/15/07 If you're closer to DC than NYC during spring break, check out the National Conference on Organized Resistance, and since February is Black History Month, here's a bit of modern education for you on the struggle against racist government systems.

2/14/07 Go ShopDropping, and to Boston.

2/11/07 Death and Taxes

2/7/07

There will be a screening of Behind The Mask on Saturday Feb. 24th at 8pm in the Comerford Theatre

Also, here's some Philly anti-war activities along with an amusing anecdote about the DC protests.

2/6/07 A different take on Valentines Day and some interesting commentary on climate change and American mercenaries here.

2/1/07 NYC 'Protest Calender' for those who are interested.

1/30/07
A fairly succesful march occurred in DC against the Iraq War and troop escalation on Saturday; though the mainstream reporting was horrid (DC Indy Media has the best reports that I've seen). You can expect to see a more personal account here in the near future.
-In other news, a few of us are working on an Earth Day celebration for downtown Scranton and would appreciate any type of help/contributions; our next meeting will be on Monday Feb. 12th at 9pm on 1114 Delware St.
-Somewhat related: remember our movie/fundraiser last December 7th? This is relevant.
-We will be involved in two movie screenings in February as well, so keep your oranges peeled.
-Looking for a spring break trip? A group of 10 or more get a discount.
-Another March activity idea.

1/26/07 Came across this video at DC Indymedia.

1/23/07 My car's filled up for DC, but there might still be room in a friend's. Also, on Monday January 29th at 9pm there will be a meeting at 1114 Deleware St. (close to campus) for a Scranton Earth Day event, email me for more info. Finally, I received the link to this in my email.

1/18/07 Sean Bell, RNC, Stop Shopping Day, Critical Mass, Brad Will

1/16/07 There is an awesome event happening this Friday, January 19th, starting at 7pm in Wilkes-Barre; that's right, you too can make your very own GENDER-DEFYING COLORING BOOK!!! Part of the third Friday Art Walk (a.k.a. there should be lots of cool stuff to do out there on Friday). See you there!

P.S. There is a MAJOR anti-war protest on Saturday the 27th in Washington, DC. Email studentapa@yahoogroups.com to arrange rides for either event.

12/10/06 The movie/benefit on Thursday went alright, especially considering the weather; I am considering doing a screening of the entire dvd sometime in the new year, so stay tuned to find out about that. Continue supporting The Shac 7 and Daniel McGowan and talking to others about The Green Scare. If you want to watch an awesome animation---kind of schoolhouse rock-esque---check out Pirates and Emperors.

Well, that's about it for this semester. There will most likely be updates to the site during the break, so don't be afraid to check in once in a while. See you next year!

12/4/06 Don't forget about the MOVIE! (Pickaxe) and BAKE SALE! (vegan) this Thursday at 9pm in Media Center 160. I will be posting the flyer in the events section. You can bring any baked goods to the showing itself, or email studentapa@yahoo.com to set up a drop-off. Can't bake? Check it (my favorite are the Vienna Fingers).

P.S. Come to the meeting tonight at 9pm in LAC 115!

12/3/06 There's a party to launch the "mandate for change" being issued to Congress in Taylor, PA that is organized through moveon.org for Tuesday. Go to the events page and click on the banner for more information.
Also, there's a push to put impeachment on the table on Human Rights Day (Dec. 10th), check it out.

12/2/06 EXPRESSION SESSION (open mic) IS CANCELLED!
SAPA as a whole would like to offer its sincerest apologies to anyone who actually planned on attending; there were many scheduling conflicts in our reservations, and time just ran out.

11/29/06 Marywood's Media Center 160 has been reserved for the December 7th showing of Pickaxe (see 'free movies') that will coincide with a bake sale to benefit the Shac 7 and Daniel McGowan---all occuring at 9pm. There will be an informational session about the Green Scare just prior to the showing of the movie, however, more info about that subject is available here.

11/21/06 The next meeting is December 4th, be their or be rhombus.

11/20/06 Good news! We are holding our 3rd annual Expression Session (open mic) on Saturday December 2nd. Admission is a non-perishable food item to benefit the local soup kitchen. Express yourself!

11/16/06 Two SAPA members were in DC today and attended a march from the Mexican embassy to the Mexican consulate in support of the people's uprising in Oaxaca. We took the streets despite the police trying unlawfully to force us off of them. The violent attempts at repression by the Mexican Government in Oaxaca have injured and killed many, including a photojournalist from New York. NYC Indy Media has had some substantial coverage on the issue.
