If I Had $1000000

Bare Naked Ladies

If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you a house (I would buy you a house)
If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you furniture for your house (Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you a K-Car (a nice Reliant automobile)
If I had $1000000 I'd buy your love.

If I had $1000000
I'd build a tree fort in our yard
If I had $1000000
You could help, it wouldn't be that hard
If I had $1000000
Maybe we could put a refrigerator in there
Wouldn't that be fabulous.

If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that's cruel)
If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you an exotic pet (Like a llama or an emu)
If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you John Merrick's remains (All them crazy elephant bones)
If I had $1000000 I'd buy your love.

If I had $1000000
We wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I had $1000000
We'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
If I had $1000000
We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner.
But we would. We'd actually make the treefort from the first chorus out of it.
Mmm.

If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress, that's cruel)
If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you some art (a Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I had $1000000 (If I had $1000000)
I'd buy you a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?)
If I had $1000000 I'd buy your love.

If I had $1000000, If I had $1000000,
If I had $1000000, If I had $1000000
I'd be rich.

ACTIVITY TWO:

As they listen to the song, the students will check their answers. In this stage , I will play the tape more than once. Because I want them to concentrate on the sentences in the song.

ACTIVITY THREE:

I will choose some sentences from the song and record these sentences to a cassette. I will also bring some pictures or photographs to the class. I will bring, for example, the picture of a beggar, a man living in the streets, a woman with a torn and dirty dress, a boy living in a very poor neighborhood, and a man painting shoes. As the students see the pictures , they will also hear the sentences from the cassette. For example, as they listen to these sentences, they will also see the pictures below:

If I had $1000000 , I'd buy a house ( boy living in a very poor neighborhood)
If I had $1000000 , I'd buy a K-Car (man painting shoes )
If I had $1000000 , I'd buy  a green dress (woman with a torn and dirty dress)
If I had $1000000 , I'd buy  a fur coat  (woman with a torn and dirty dress)
If I had $1000000,  I'd be rich  (man living in the streets)
If I had $1000000, we'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more ( beggar)

In the photographs, the subjects will be dreaming or thoughtful.

ACTIVITY FOUR:
Now the students have understood what happens in the song; and they have also understood that the unreality in the song is given with the structure of the sentences in the song. Now, I will ask some questions about the song , because I want the students concentrate on the unreality in the song. I will ask, for example:

Is the singer rich or poor?
Who can be the potential singers of this song?
What can be the singer doing? ( My aim is to elicit the word dreaming, because this structure is mostly  used when we are  dreaming something that can not be real. )

Then, I ask the students if they had a great power or big money, what would they do? We talk about it for ten minutes

ACTIVITY FOUR:

I prepare a worksheet wit the first part of the sentences in the song and ask the students to create their own song by completing the sentences with their own words.
