LESSON PLAN Lesson:English Class:Prep C Time:90 minutes Level:Beginners Un?t:Un?t 22 'I am going to' Materials:Pictures,cards,board,authentic materials Goal:The main goal is to teach the structure of 'to be going to' and show the differences between 'will and be going to. Objectives:By the end of the lesson,students will be able to make sentences with to be going to.Also, they will be to differ the sentences in will and to be going to when tey come across. PROCEDURE WHILE-TEACHING (35 MINUTES ) PRE-TEACHING (5 MINS ) Greet?ngs and warming-up.I will bring a horoscope Prediction Paper.Firstly, Iwill ask them ; _Do you know horoscope? _What is horoscope? _Do you believe in horoscope? Then, I will say my birthday and my horoscope and what wiil happen next according to my horoscope. Then, I will ask the students who are willing to hear their future? _My birthday is September 26th. So, my horoscope is Libra. According to my horoscope, ? am going to win a lot of money. How lucky I am! Later, I will ask; _When is your birthday _August 11th _Then, You are Leo. It says you are going to climb a mountain soon. Oh! you are going to be climber The same question will be asked to the other students ACTIVITY I (13 mins) For this section, ? will bring a picture.In this picture, there will be some people thinking what they are going to do. And I will want them to guess what they are going to do. I will do the first picture for an example. In this picture, There is a woman who thinks to watchT.V in her thinking balloon.I will say and write it on the board. _What is she going to do? _She is going to watch T.V Then, I will ask them _What is he going to do? ACTIVITY II (10 mins) I will prepare some cards on which tere are phrases. They will decide whether they are going to do or not going to do these tomorrow.they will study in pairs.One of the students will make positive sentence the other will make the negative sentence for each phrase An example card; (buy a car ) .................................... ...................................... (get up early ) .................................... ...................................... (have breakfast ) .................................. ....................................... (watch T.V in the morning ) .................................. ................................. (cook a meal ) .................................... ....................................... (ride a bike ) ....................................... ...................................... For an example,I will write two phrases on the board and make sentences (visit my grandmother ) I am going to visit my grandmother (visit my grandmother/not ) I am not going to my grandmother ACTIVITY III (10 mins) I will show a picture including some materials.By means of this, I want to emphasize the usage of going to future with third person singular.Each student who will make up a sentence say it and come to board to write it on the board. For example, ?n the first picture, there is a Chinese book for John to read for the next day _What is John going to do? _John is going to read a Chinese book tomorrow Then, I will want them to write sentences about what they are going to do tomorrow.I will say ; _John is going to read a chinese book _What about you? what are you going to do tomorrow? POST-TEACHING (7 mins) I will want the students to work in pairs. I will create a situation for them. I will want them to imagine that they have 100.000 $ and ask them what they are going to do with this money. At least, five sentences will be written. Then, I will want them to read aloud. 15 MINUTES BREAK SECOND LESSON In the second lesson, I will show the differences between will and be going to by making activity ACTIVITY I (10 mins) In order to make them remember the usage of ' will ' , I will want them to speak about their dream house by using 'will' future. I will ask pretend that you have enough money to build the house of your dreams. Describe your dream in detail. _What kind of house will you build? _What will you build? _What will it look like? _What furniture will you choose? e.g. In my dream house I will have big pictures on te wall ACTIVITY II (10 mins) I will show them some pictures.In this pictures, the auxiliry parts of the sentences in the thinking baloons are empty and I will want them to fill them using will or be going to according to situations.For example,there will be a picture in which there are two people.One of them carries a heavy packet and the other says; _I will carry it for you. ACTIVITY III (10 mins) I will divide the class into groups including 3-4 people.some groups will make a dialogue with will future and the others will use going to future then, they will role-play them. POST-TEACHING (10 mins) In this section, I will give a quiz.I will say them; I have a very nice surprise for you. I am sure that you will enjoy it.we learned the usage of 'will ' future before and today we learned 'to be going to' future.Now, you will have a quiz about them. QUIZ The verbs in these sentences are underlined.Indicate the correct ones. 1-We will go / We are going to go to theatre tonight.We have got tickets.(We are going is right.) 2-What will you do/ are you going to do tomorrow evening? nothing. I am free. 3-I will go/ I am going to go away tomorrow morning. my train is at 8.40 4-I am sure he will tend/he is going to lend you some money. he is very rich. 5-Why are you putting on your coat?I will go out/ I am going to go out. 6-Do you think claire will phone /Claire is going to phone us tonight? 7-She can't meet u? on Saturday. She will work/She is going to work 8-The clouds is very black.I think ?t will rain/is going to rain. EXTRA-CLASS WORK (5mins) I will bring some authentic materials consisting of the sentences with 'will' and' be going to' to the class.I will want them to find these sentences and underline them. These materials can be taken from magazines or newspapers.After that, I will want them to bring their own materials to the class later to study on them. |
