      TIME   : 90 MINUTES
      UNIT   : UNIT-5 THE PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PAST TENSE
      GOALS  : UNDERSTANDING THE PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PAST TENSE
      OBJECTIVES : TO LEARN THE PASSIVE VOICE IN SIMPLE PAST TENSE
                                TO REPEAT THE PAST PARTICIPLE FORMS OF VERBS
                                TO DISCRIMINATE REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS
      LEVEL  : BEGINNERS
      MATERIALS : TEXTBOOK , BOARD , PICTURES , REAL OBJECTS


           
PRE-TEACHING ( 10 MINUTES )
After greetings,starting the lesson with talking about students'  weekends.  Some questions will be asked to the students about their  weekends.Then I will hang two coloured pictures on the board.They are about some actions.In the first picture,there is a woman and a clean window and the woman is remembering the window which was dirty before.In the second one, there is a man and some pruned grass in the garden.The man is remembering long grass before.Some questions will be asked to students about pictures - "What can you see in these pictures?","What did man and woman do?" .Answers will be written on the board - "The man cut thegrass.","The woman cleaned the window."Then I will ask students whether we can tell these actions in the same meaning but with different form.I will give the answer "Yes,we can".Then the new form of sentences will be written on the board - "The grass was cut by the man." and "The window was cleanedby the woman."


WHILE-TEACHING ( 70 MINUTES )

FIRST ACTIVITY ( 10 MINUTES )

      Some real objects will be taken to the classroom such as a broken pencil,a torn paper and an empty water bootle.Some questions will be  asked to the students about the objects - "What are they?","What can you say about these objects?",and also "Can you guess who tore this paper?",etc. Answers will be written on the board and I will want the subjects of sentences selected from their classmates - "The paper was torn  by Ayse.", or "The water was drunk by Fatih."Giving examples from the class as a subject can be amusing for students while they are learning the passive voice.

SECOND ACTIVITY ( 15 MINUTES )
      I will talk about last Saturday night.I will tell students that one of my friends called me and said to me that she had wanted to come to my house for dinner.I will say that I decided to make fish and chips for dinner after accepting her offer.I will tell them that my friend loved the meal very much and wanted the recipe.I will give papers which include the instructions about the meal to every student.I will want them to write the verbs in brackets in the passive and simple past tense form to complete the instructions.
>      1- The pieces of fish ------------ ( wash )
>      2- Eggs,flour and milk ----------- in a bowl. ( put )
>      3- The fish ------------ into the mixture. ( put )
>      4- Oil ----------- in a deep pan. ( heat )
>      5- The fish ----------- out of the mixture. ( take )
>      6- The fish ----------- in the hot oil. ( fry )
>      7- The potatoes -----------. ( wash )
>      8- The potatoes -----------. ( cut up )
>      9- More oil ----------- in another pan. ( heat )
>     10- The chips ----------- in the oil. ( cook )
>     11- The fish and chips ----------- with peas and bread and butter. ( serve )

      After filling the blanks,students will read the instructions.Students will learn to practise the passive voice in simple past tense.

THIRD ACTIVITY  ( 10 MINUTES )
     There is a story about protecting rain forests in the book.Students will complete the captions with passive verbs in Simple Past
Tense.After filling the blanks with correct form,students will read a good story called "The Destruction of The Rain Forest."

  The Destruction of The Rain Forest

    Trees ----------- ( cut down ).The homes of millions of animals --------- ( destroy ).The wood ----------- ( export ) to Japan,Europe and North America.The wood ----------- ( make ) into furniture.The land ---------- ( use ) for animals and crops.The soil ----------- ( wash away ) by the rain.The soil ------------ ( blow away ) by the wind.The land ---------- ( turn into ) a desert and nothing could ----------- ( grow ).

FOURTH ACTIVITY ( 15 MINUTES )
    I will go on the lesson with another writing activity from >textbook.There are ten active sentences which tell a story about a demonstration and several new events that come after the demonstration.I willl want students to rewrite the sentences in the passive voice.I will also warn my students that not all of the sentences need an agent.If the meaning is clear,students can omit the agent.

          After this activity,students will learn how they explain active sentences in passive forms.

FIFTH ACTIVITY ( 20 MINUTES )
      The last one will be speaking activity.I will offer students to play a game.One of students will make an active sentence - "I prepared the breakfast."Then other student will say the sentence in passive voice - "The breakfast was prepared by Fatma."Other partners will go on the activity.The first student will make an active sentence - "I watered the flowers and the trees."Partner of the first student will say this sentence in passive form  "The flowers and the trees were watered by Ali."In this activity,every member of students will make a sentence.Thus they will reinforce the passive voice in Simple Past Tense and everybody will be active in the class.

EKSTRA ACTIVITY
     I will hang two pictures on the board.The first picture will show a room a long time ago in the past.The second one will show the same room as it's now.I will want students to complete the sentences using the Past Simple Passive of these verbs : repair , paint , put up , clean.

POST-TEACHING ( 10 MINUTES )
       In this part of the lesson,I will make a short summary of the lesson.I will repeat important parts of the passive voice with using board."We have learnt to make a passive sentence from an active one in this lesson.For example ; The man cut the grass.--The grass was cut by the man." ( with writing on the board )
      Students will be warned about mistakes that they make during the lesson.I will give some exercises from textbook about the passive voice.

       
EVALUATION
       The students of Prep-a are not very good at using the Past Participle forms of verbs and also discriminating the verbs whether they are regular or irregular.
