          PRODECURE

PRE-TEACHING (5 MINS):
Before moving into the unit, I will show them some pictures of some famous people who are alive or not. For example: I will say ‘ he is Mustafa Sandal and he is a singer ‘ then, ask ‘ Who is this? ‘ holding up the other picture. They will reply that ‘ she is Madonna and she is a singer ‘ so we will follow this activity doing some more exercises. Therefore, I will have reviewed the previous lesson, because they learnt to use present form of ‘be’. Then, I will show them again some pictures of  famous people but they are not alive now. I will ask the following questions; but, firstly, I should say that  ‘ He is Elvis Presley and he was a singer ‘
Then,  Teacher : ‘ Who is this’
Student : ‘ He is Charlie Chaplin’
Teacher : ‘Tell me about Charlie Chaplin ‘
           Student :  ‘ He was a comedian’...etc.
Therefore, I will have made a relationship between the previous lesson and the that day’s subject.

WHILE TEACHING (35 MINS):

ACTIVITY 1 : I will give some famous peoples’ names and want them to work in pair and write everything they know about them. Then each pair will read their list and tha class will discuss whether they agree with the pair or not.

ACTIVITY 2: I will use the lists they prepared .
Teacher: ‘ Charlie Chaplin was a comedian and he wasn’t a singer, Was he American?’
I will say this with rising intonation so that I can draw their attention . Anyway, they will get that I have asked them a question and said something negative.

ACTIVITY 3: Then, the books will be opened and made exercises in it including ‘negative, affirmative and interrogation forms of past tense of be ‘ Before that,  I will write one example for each form. For instance: ‘ Yes, s/he was ...’               ‘ Yes, they were...’
‘ No, s/he was not...’           ‘ No, they were not...’
                                              ‘ Was s/he ...?’                     ‘ Were they...’
Meanwhile, I will emphasize that ‘not makes a sentence negative, in addition, when we use  was or were  at the begining of the sentence , we make an interrogation sentence’
Then, I will get a volunteer to come out to the front of the class to write a question which would lead to the appropriate positive/negative response. When they begin to do the exercises as correct as they do; it means that they become to get the point.

POST TEACHING ( 5 MINS ):
In this part, main points must be reviewed and made summary of the recent lesson.
Teacher : ' the present form of be ( am, is, are ) and the past form is that ' was, were '. I n addition, ' to make a sentence negative we use not after ' was , were ' , don't we? ' and ' we use was were at the begining of the sentence to make it a question ' At the end, I will want them to make some practise about it pasting some pictures on a cartoon and explaining them as we did in the lesson.

2. LESSON

PRE-TECHING ( 5 MINS ):
Firstly, I will get the students to listen to a song which name is ' Yesterday ' sung by ' The Beatles '
Teacher : ' We will just listen to it  and have enjoy from it , because, I think, you got tired a bit last lesson '
Then , I will play the song   '' Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away ''
'' Now it looks as though they are here to stay ''
                                             '' Oh, I believe in yesterday '' ...
'' Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play '' ...
                                             ....................................................................................
After listening to it, I will take their comments about the song and ask them  if they like it , in addition to this, which verbs or words they heard...etc. ' Then, I will offer them to listen to it again.

WHILE TEACHING ( 35 MINS ) :

ACTIVITY 1 : While listening to it, I will stopthe song in some appropriate places and want them to say what they have heard, also, tyey will write them on the board. So I will underline the word '' yesterday '' and some words used in past tense. Then, I will explain that
'' we use yesterday in the past tense as a time adverb '' and draw their attention other verbs used in the song such as verb'' seem '' .  '' There is no only verb be used in past tense, there are also other verbs '' I will tell them.

ACTIVITY 2 : As a second activity, I will write the first line of the song to indicate the ''ed'' suffix. For example:   '' Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away ''.
Furthermore, I will explain '' this suffix  -ed, -d makes some verbs past.''  '' Now, write me some sentences related to it '' But , before that, I will make a sentence in past tense. For example : '' Yesterday, I watched TV '' or  '' I talked to my mother '' explaining '' Dün, televizyon izledim '' yada '' Annemle konu?tum ''

ACTIVITY 3 :I will want them to make sentences just I did. They will write them on a piece of paper and read them to us.

ACTIVITY 4 : I will move into the negative and interrogation forms of simple past tense.
'' I did not watch TV yesterday and  I did not listen to the radio '' I will repeat this two times. Later, I will ask them to remember in which cases we use '' not '' and I will get their replies. As a further, I will ask a student  '' Did you play football yesterday ? '' with rising intonation , so one will probably say '' yes '' or '' no ''. Therefore, I will express that  '' when we want to ask a question to anybody in past tense, we use  '' did ''  auxilary verb at the begining of the sentence. ''

ACTIVITY 5 : In this activity, I will tell the students that they are going to write the story of a friendship between two people by inventing answers to the following question:
    1) Who was the woman?
    2) Who was the man?
    3) Where did they meet ?
    4) What was the man's job ?
    5) What was the woman's job?
    6) What did they talk about ?
    7) What happened in the end ?
Teacher '' Well, write imaginary details in answers to the questions.''  '' When you write down , just fold the paper and give it to your friend near you ''   ''  Therefore , you will write a story in past tense.'' And  '' When you answer the all questions , open the fold you receive and read it to us ''  At the end, tyey will have written a story in past by yourselves.
