Submitted by Isa Yildiz LESSON PLAN LESSON:ENGLISH CLASS:PREP/C LEVEL:BEGINNER TIME:40 MINUTES MATERIALS:TEXTBOOK,BOARRD P?CTURES AND REAL OBJECTS GOALS:TECHING THE USE OF PREPOSITIONS (IN/ON/AT) AND SOME RULES ABOUT THEM OBJECTIVES:BY THE END OF THE LESSON THE STUDENTS W?LL BE ABLE TO EXPRESS THE LOCATIONS OF THE 0BJECTS AND BE ABLE TO MAKE SENTENCES W?TH PRE POSITIONS PROCEDURE PRE - TEACHING (5 MINUTES) : I greet the students and start to warm up. Firstly I start to ask some questions about their dailly life.I must start to present the lesson with a real object and by simple way because the learners are beginner and too small. I show them a lovebird which I have brought to the class to use it in presentation. Then I take the bird in my hand and point to the bird and ask the students ‘What is this?’ and they answer ‘This is a bird.’ Then I put the bird on my shoulder and ask‘what do you see on my shoulder? They can answer it easily and so they learn the preposition (on). After they have seen how is ‘on’ used ? will teach them ‘in’. I put the bird into its cage and ‘Where is the bird?’I ask to the students. They can’t answer first and then I give the answer ‘The bird is in the cage’. So they learn it. The work of the bird is finished in presentation when we come to ‘at’. I show a picture of a school and Tim playing in the school garden. Then I say that Tim is playing at school. Then I give another example. ‘My uncle is ill and he goes to hospital. The doctor says to my uncle that you are very ill and you live in the hospital for a week. And last day I go to visit him. So last day I’m at the hospital.’ By the way they notice that the usage of ‘at’.beside I can show a picture and ask ‘what are they doing?’ In the picture there are people waiting for the bus at the bus station. They may say only ‘They are waiting for the bus’ as they have learned present continuous tense in the previous lesson. Then I say where are they waiting and they answer ‘in or at the bus station’.then I correct it. Pre - teaching is finished now and we can start while teaching. WHILE TEACHING (35 MINUTES): ACTIVITY 1 (5 MINUTES): I will show them a picture. And I will ask them what they are seeing in the picture? The picture will be about Jim’s house and its rooms. And I will give some sentences to know what Jim has in his house. And the students decide wether it is true or not by looking to the picture which I have showed them. If they trhink that the sentence is true they say true, then if not they say false and then the teacher will check their answers and correct the wrong answers. For example;’The kitchen in Jim’s house is on the second floor. It is true or false’ The teacher asks. The students see that the kitchen is on the second floor and they say this is true. So they can notice the usage of prepositions by examples and it will be very enjoyable for students. This true false activity activate the students’ knowledge of usage of the prepositions. Mainly the aim of this activity is to review the presentation so that the students can notice the differences between the prepositions ‘in,on,at’ and to prevent the difficulties in other complex activities which the students will come up with. ACTIVITY 2 (5 MINUTES): I will show them a picture of any room. It is about the positions of the furnitures. Then I ask that ‘Where is the television?’ they answer all this kind questions. If they have made a mistake I won’t correct it immediately. I wait until it nobody can know it. Also I can use real objects which already exist in the classroom or I can bring some real objects from outside like a ruler,cat,bird,stone,leaf,dog,etc... For example I can use the board by asking ‘Where is the board?’or ? can bring a ball to the class and put it on the table and may ask ‘Where is the ball or Is the ball in the wall?’ So they can also learn where is questions. ACTIVITY 3 (5 MINUTES): In this activity the students will themselves be active.I will make them ask question to each other. I will say that one of you stands up and choose an object which I have brought you or already exist in the classroom. You will shoose and then ask question about it to the whole class then they raise their hands and you give permission whoever you want. After I have made this acttivity as a model they will start. But the teacher make the students notice that they had better to ask yes-no questions. For example:Is that book on the desk? In fact this activity may be a speaking activity but because they are early we only let them ask and answer the questions. The aim of this activity is to approach to the activities which the students can communicate with each other. ACTIVITY 4 (5 MINUTES): I will write on the board some nouns like drinkers, film fan, visiter etc. And beside them I will write some names of places like bar, cinema,ho?spital, etc. in paranthesis. And ? will say them you find the suitable preposition for each name. They will come to the board and try to find one by one. If someone makes a wrong I dont correct it immediately I waitr until someone makes it right. If there is a confusion in most minds I will explain it briefly. In this activity I have tried to practise the difference of ‘at’. ACTIVITY 5 (5 MINUTES) : This activity will be fill in the blanks activity. They will understand the difference between in,on,at. I will write on the board ten sentences and their preposition partis empty. Then they come tothe board one by one and try to find the suitable preposition. POST TEACHING (5 MINUTES): After I have finished all activities I will review the main points and make summary of the lesson. Especially I notice the differences between ‘at’ and ‘in’. Then I give to the students some homework from their book. |
