Submitted by Sule Ac?kbas LESSON:English CLASS:Prep A TIME:45 LEVEL:Beginners UNIT:Unit 20 'USED TO' MATERIALS:Pictures,board,authentic materials,UHP GOAL:The main goal is to teach the structure and the meaning of the used to. OBJECTIVES:At the end of the lesson,students will be able to make sentences with used to. PRE-TEACHING (5 minutes) Greetings and warming up. I will ask students If they have a collection or not and If they have ,I will ask about what they collect.Then,I will tell them about my stamp collection that I made when I was ten :"I used to collect stamps,but now I don't". WHILE-TEACHING (32 minutes) ACTIVITY 1 (12 minutes) I will bring some pictures to the class.In this pictures,I will give the some habits of the peaple and with an other picture I will show that these people give up their habits.For example;There will be a man that smoking and next to hin there will be an other man that doesn't smoke anymore.And I will make a sentences about the picture using 'used to'.I will write it on the board and want them to repeat it after me. -He used to smoke when he was twenty,but now he doesn't. Students will make sentences about the other pictures.In other pictures,ther will be a dancer,adriver, a runner,a boy playing guitar etc. I will ask students;'What did he/she used to do?'. ACTIVITY 2 (10 minutes) I will give some situations to the students and they will make new sentences with 'used to' about the given situation. -Jim is twelve years old now.When he was five they were living in an old flat,but now they live in a very big and modern house. 'They used to live in an old flat,but now they don't.' -John was a driver.He was the champion in Olimpics. However,he had a car accident and now he doesn't drive anymore. ACTIVITY 3 (10 minutes) I will divide class into three group. And I will give four or five flashcarts to each group.The first group will show one of the pictures to the second group and ask; 'What did he/she/they used to do?'.And the group will make the correct sentences together and one of them tells the answer.the students decide If the answer is correct or not.If it is necessary, I will interfere them. POST-TEACHING (5 minutes) I will ask them whether ther is anything they used to do or not. And I will give a candy the students that make correct sentences. HOMEWORK (3 minutes) |
