Review
*Special thanks to Katie to A.J. for these days!*
I'll just begin with my traveling that started on Friday, even though the shows were on Saturday. I only got three hours of sleep for some reason, but left here at 8am. It takes about 3 hours to get to Kansas City, but without fail, we got lost for an hour trying to find the actual threater.
I met Katie and her brother, Ian, at the venue, even though we were in seperate parking lots. Oops. We all got my stuff and went back to Katie's place which is a 2 hour drive in the other direction. I said bye to my parents, of course.
We watched a lot of Al videos at Katie's apartment and played some softball for a room-mates co-ed baseball team. I did score, however odd it seemed.
I did actually fall asleep, though I'm not sure for how long because it took me a bit to get to sleep, then I woke up, fell asleep again, and woke up again by Katie because we had to get ready. I was in the middle of some Al dream too. Oh well. A dream was coming true that day!
We all got ready and left Katie's apartment by 8:30. It was just Katie, Ian, and I. Heath was suppose to come, but he got sick, so Ian took his place.
You don't need to hear details about driving that much. ;) We did listen to ALbums on the way to A.J.'s place. It took about 7 hours to get there.
We arrived and met some Al fans already at A.J.'s place. It was very nice to meet them all. We decided to go to the Pier early since Chicago traffic is rather unpredictable. I think it took about an hour or so to get there and get "decent" parking. Blah. The Navy Pier parking garage was full, so there was alternative parking. We got seperated from A.J's car and parked in a place for 17 dollars. Very expensive.
We all went to grab a bite to eat at the busy pier. It sure was crowded and packed. I don't do too well with a crowd that size. I hadn't eaten that much during the time, so I got some fries for order #277. So we ate food and then headed over to the Skyline Stage to look at merchandise and hang out a bit before the show actually started.
I bought both shirts that had tour dates on it. I'll probably buy more merchandise at the Kansas City show. Katie, Ian, and I went to go find our seats which were closer than I expected. Wooooooo. I also got to meet Rich (rboy27) from WOWAY, Lolly from STUPID, and see a lot of STUPIDs again! I've missed all of my STUPIDs. :) We talked and chatted until they told everyone to get in their seats for the opening act.
The opening act wasn't that bad. He was pretty funny and I loved his banana trick. Of course, it's just more hilarious to STUPIDs for other reasons. ;) He took about a half hour and then we waited another 15 minutes for Al to come out. Woo-hoo!
Also, the setlist was sadly shortened a lot for these shows. Party at the Leper Colony, Your Horoscope for Today, Melanie, One More Minute, and It's All About The Pentiums were missing from both shows. Dog Eat Dog was missing from the second show.
It was so great to see Al live again. It's been a year since I had last seen him in concert at Orange County. The first show definitely had a lot of energy, as well as the second show.
I just love how Al answers his cell phone when it opens to A Complicated Song. It's just even more hilarious that way!
I was so happy to see Dog Eat Dog live again. That is one of my absolute favorite Al songs and it's even more wonderful to see live. This song and Wanna B Ur Lovr share just one roll of film between them. One roll of film dedicated to white suits.
DebBob and Ali were right that Wanna B Ur Lovr live is worth the price of admission alone. That song is just hilarious and swoon-worthy to see live. I especially love it since Al sang to me during it! I wanted to take a picture so badly of Al singing to me, but I couldn't move once that eye contact was made. *melts into a puddle of goo* Al also went into the audience for it and made the appropiate gestures right in front of certain female audience members.
Trash Day was also wonderful live. I love all of the outfits the guys wear onstage. Very nice!
Al did the entire medley, with seeing Ode to a Superhero live and the harmonica roadies facial expressions while he waits for Al to use the harmonica again is hilarious!
The Nirvana cheerleaders did a pretty good job of staying together with the music and with each other, though I didn't pay too much attention to them since I was paying attention to Al. He threw two cups into the audience, which Moonbeam and Megan caught one. Lucky.
Al kept the new part of the Fat the same from OC last year, but I absolutely love the new Yoda chant. I knew there was a new part, but seeing it live was absolutely amazing. I love it! Plus, one of these days I'm going to have to time Al to see how long he holds that note during The Saga Begins.
It was odd knowing that one show was over already, but had one more to go! Yay! We had to make our way out and go back into the line for the second show.
