Review
Well, my dad and I proceeded to have lunch and leave about 1:15 and arrived at Sporkman’s house about 2:30. We got lost a wee bit since Lincoln is confusing with its one way street, and we ended up passing his house, then trying to find out way back to go the right way.
We then sat ourselves among various places in the living room and watched some Al tapes that I had brought, so Sporkman could see the glory of…more Al!
We were going to his friend’s house, where we could have some ribs and fill our starving stomachs. Course, Sporkman and I don’t need such silly things such as food, so we proceeded to watch more…Al! As we were getting ready to go back to Sporkman’s house, so we could leave for the show; I made a passing comment about that I would make copies for Sporkman if I had a second VCR. The random friend of the family went ahead and gave me one, much to Sporkman and my self’s complete surprise.
It was very random.
We then headed off to the show, following the crew in the Sporkmobile. We parked and went over to the Lied Center, where a Fred was spotted from the window and waved to her. We made our way indoors, wandering around. I then went on a mission and captured Sporkman to be my slave…Hand out Star Fund stickers and get signatures for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Course, Sporkman isn’t that well-versed in advertising, he handed that job off to someone else. I got some mixed reviews with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some people were really happy about it; some other didn’t really seem to care at all what they were signing. Gee, thanks. The most fun part is when you see couples together or a few friends and one half will sign, while the other half watches in horror at what this person is doing. Oy.
Fred found me while I was in line, getting the petition signed. We talked for a tiny bit and more bits through-out the day.
Also encountered a person who asked if there was an h in Yankovic. I told him there was no h in the spelling or in the pronunciation.
Oh yes, this has to be the first show I’ve attended with warning signs saying, "This show contains strobe lights and fog effects." Interesting.
They decided to let us in not too long afterwards. The sad thing is, most of the people attending had to be last minute since Sporkman’s sister got row H that morning.
My dad and I found out seats, which were 3rd row, dead center.
I handed the petition to some people next to me and suddenly a person behind me asked me when I got my tickets. I told her the day they went on sale. She was complaining she was told she had front row (supposedly she was told that the first three rows were not going to be sold…Eh?) and she complained to the people enough, right before the show, she was moved to front row. Huh. There were still two front row seats available right in front of Al…but I know my dad wouldn’t move and I wanted to sit with him this time, so I stayed in 3rd row.
About 7:45 or so, I went looking for my clipboard with the petitions on it, it was passed around so much that I lost track of it. Just as some last minute people were putting their John Hancock on it, Fun Zone started to play! I didn’t even realize there was a lack of an opening comedian until Sporkman mentioned it later.
I hurried to my seat in time for the "Hey!"s in Fun Zone and then…some more moving pictures and then….Al! Huzzah! It was absolutely fantastic to see him again! Ah, I miss Al! There were a lot of extra bubbles it seems this time around.
Apparently, also, Al did his research on Lincoln on the ‘net and found out the people of Lincoln like nothing better than the devastating effect of Leprosy, so he wrote the song just for us. It was also nice to see people putting their arms in the air when their horoscope sign came up in Your Horoscope for Today.
Sadly, the person I was sitting next to did nothing but just sit there stoically. ~sigh~ It seems his friends next to him though were pretty big Al fans since they knew most of the songs and sang along.
I also noticed the volume seemed to be lower than what I was use to at the shows. The fact that the Midwest contains some of the most stoic crowds don’t help in the fact that I could clearly hear myself yell the lyrics.
Accordion to my view, it seems like Sporkman has the loudest cell phone in the world. LOL.
At the end of Melanie, Al stopped and went, "Jim West will now do a guitar solo while I bite his leg!" LOL! It was so funny.
Usually I see Al coming off from the side from the costume changes, apparently this time it was in the back, so he would come from the back of the stage in the center.
To my surprise, Al only gave out one scarf and one pair of undies during One More Minute, and kept the other scarf on til of the end of the song and walked away with it.
WBUL was fantastic as always. Heheh. I know at some point, he got on some seat, and started moving his butt up and down. That was interesting! He also sang to an 8 year old girl. I got the, "I'd like to take you home right now
So you can meet my mom
Because I..." Then proceeded to sing the next chorus to me. ~happy sigh~ The best part was right after that, he then unbuttoned his shirt right in front of me! Yeah!
I got both cups of water on me during SLN. I think Al tried to kick the second one right to me because Sporkman said it flew over my head. I lost sight to where it flew though. Steve also threw his bass up in the air at the end of SLN.
The Eminem video clip was fine until toward the end it started freezing up, so um…technical difficulties there. That was the only technical difficulty though.
During Yoda, it seems like a person in front of me wasn’t singing along, so he stared at her and mouthed, "Sing!" So she started to sing and Al had this funny, "Yeah, you better sing" look on his face. That was great.
Steve started playing his bass with his teeth at the end of Yoda. Al also attempted to slap the hands of everyone in front row.
Sadly, the show was over. Soon after that, I realized that it was my last show of the tour and there would be no more Al in concert for me for a while. Sad!
Sporkman and the rest of us made our way outdoors to the tour bus. Not too long after waiting out there, a woman announced that it would be able 10 to 15 minutes before any of the band members came out. Though, Jim, Ruben, and Bermuda were already on the bus it seems. Except for when Jim was chatting on a cell phone next to the bus.
Steve came out though and did a lot of autographs. I got to chat with him a bit, had an autograph before. I told him it was a great show and my last show. I think I’ve also confused Steve with all of my traveling because he asked where I lived and I told him Omaha, of course. He asked where I was during the show because he couldn’t see me. I told him I was 3rd row center. "Oh, that’s why I couldn’t see you!" I gave Steve the birthday card I had for Bermuda and asked Steve to give it to him. Steve gave me a hug goodbye.
Sporkman also got a bit of a convo in with Steve and confusing him a bit too.
About 10 or 20 minutes afterwards, Skip came out and gave the normal instructions: No life stories, one autograph per person, and no posed pictures. Gotcha, Skip!
We waited in line and then it was my turn! I can’t even remember exactly what I said. Maybe Sporkman remembers. "Hi, Al!"
"Hi!"
"This seems like this is going to be my last show of the tour."
"Awww! I’ll miss you!"
~blush~ "I’ll miss you too, of course, Al!"
Then he stood up and gave me a big giant hug, which I loved a whole bunch. Yay! Happy hug, happy hug. Al signed my ticket and I told him to hurry up with that next album. He said he would try. I gave him a bag of white chocolate covered pretzels that I made him.
Sporkman had a small conversation with Al, having his ticket signed, and I snapped their picture together. Yay. We both said bye and waved to Al.
My dad and I left soon after that. I was told later that Jim and Bermuda came out afterwards. Drat. My dad and I got home about midnight though. Wonderful show as always!
Pictures! Look!
