Sd.Kfz.223 was a modified Sd.Kfz.221 to be used as a light armored car with a long range radio equipment. Production started in 1935 and 550 were produced by Weserhuette, MNH and Buessing-NAG in four series by January of 1944. From May of 1942, vehicles were based on Sd.Kfz.222. Vehicles were issued to Panzerspaehwagen squadrons and served on all fronts. Sd.Kfz.223 along with Sd.Kfz.222 were also sold to Bulgaria.
