The 1995 cross country season can be described with one word, team. We had a balanced, devoted group of runners with the single common goal of winning the state championship, which had eluded the cross country team for years. Even with the goal of a state title in everyone's mind a bit of uncertainty was present at the beginning of the season with only two of last year's top five runners returning and the entire team wondering who would step up.

As the season progressed the team was ready to win back-to-back GCL championships for the first time. The St. Xavier bombers ran over the competition in GCL’s and districts with easy victories, once again proving we were city champs. The team then finished a strong second at regionals with everyone still confident we could finish at least second upstate. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The team finished fourth, a mere one point away from third place. We held our heads high though, knowing we had tried our hardest with no regrets. With five of the top seven runners returning next year the quest for state title number one will certainly continue as the bombers seek to go upstate for the tenth straight year.
