For
the past 12 consecutive years, the St. Xavier Cross Country Team has gone to
the state meet, and 11 times walked away without a title. Rather than being
content to be one of the perennial powerhouses in the state of Ohio, this
team was hungry to prove themselves the best. From the first day of summer
practice, we knew this year could be something special. We had a great mix of
senior leadership and underclassman talent, unbelievable team unity, and the
best staff of coaches in the sport. We ran through the season with hard work
and dedication, often splitting the team in two, and turning in strong
showings at big meets. After thoroughly dominating our GCL opponents, we
encountered a setback at the Regional Meet, falling to Centerville.
Undaunted, the team showed up November 7th and showcased quite possibly the
best example of team running ever by a Bomber team. We pounded the entire
state of Ohio into the ground like a tent stake, and accomplished our
mission: We are the 1998 Ohio Cross Country State Champions, forever. |
