Need some tips on how to make YOUR site better? Read this!
Note: These are just my tips, and what I have done. I'm not saying that they are right or w/e...
1. If you dont have it already,
download Psp. Its a great program. I just downloaded it so I'm still learning but ive seen my hits increase and my layouts are better!
2. Do include a guestbook or tagboard. This allows you to get feedback from your visitors, and let me tell you, if you get alot of comments about how great your site is, you WILL work harder, I know I have.
3. Include your contact information or a form that allows users to contact you. This allows your visitors to interact with you.
4. Also include some information about yourself. You dont have to put your address or phone number or all that lol, but put your name(first), your age, things you like, and other things like that. I know I hate when I go to a site and know nothing about the webmistress/webmaster.
5. Include a poll, this allows visitors to interact and voice their opinion, instead of just readin a whole bunch of yours
6. Have a unique site name. If you have a name that is simple or something like dolls something, it doesnt show persalization
7. Change your layout often, atleast twice a month. Visitors dont wanna keep coming back if they have to see the same thing everytime.
8. Keep adding new fresh content, again, visitors dont wanna keep coming back if theres nothing new to look at.
9. Be nice to your visitors, if you cuss somebody out everytime you get hate mail, or a rude comment, or critisism, you arent going to be very nice and appealing to visitors now are you?
10. Have sister sites. Sister sites support you and are there for you. If things get tough, they will be there for you. Its much easier if you have some;)
11. Accept critisism. Now I'm not saying if someone cuss' you out that you have to take it, but if you get a bad review or somebody gives you tips, dont take it personally. Most of the time they are trying to help you out;)
12. Dont put music on your site. Most of the time, people want to stop it, and its a hassle. If you want to listen to music, listen to it yourself, dont put it on your site.
13. Join topsites. They increase your hits and its fun competing. Its awesome to go back and see what number you are. Its fun for me, but what can I say, I'm a dork;P lol
14. DONT use easy designer or page builder. They make your site REALLY bad. Its easy, but your site will be MUCH better if you use HTML. Need help learning/using HTML? Just ask, I'll try to help you in any way that I can
15. DONT copy off of other sites. This just makes you look worse. If you want your site to be a great site, you have to come up with your own ideas.
16. NEVER direct link, unless the site owners say its ok. People pay alot of money for bandwidth and everytime you direct link, they have to pay, if you want know of some free sites that you are allowed to direct link off of, just ask me, I know of some;)
17. Have fun doing it. If you dont have fun, and its like a chore to update, your site is not going to be good. Pick a subject that you enjoy and make a site about that.
18. Make sure you have time before you open a site. Trust me, sites take alot of work, it may look easy and like it takes no time at all, but they are time consuming. So dont open a site unless you have atleast a few hours like twice a week to do it, ATLEAST!!!!
19. Credit people. If you use an idea or use something off of another site, such as brushes, backgrounds, signs, or w/e else, credit them!!
20. Dont be discouraged about the number of hits your getting. When I first started I didnt get many hits, I was lucky to get 5 a day, but fortunatly, I stuck through it and made my site better;)
