Ever wondered how to read the fault code memory on a series 1 or 2 Liberty?

Follow these steps:

1 Make sure engine is off and key is in off position in ignition.

2 Connect the black read memory connectors (these are located under the lower dashpanel under the steering wheel attached where a couple of plugs are on the side of the heater unit to the left of the steering column (in RHD cars)). It is easier to see if you remove that panel, but you needn't if you know where it is. (The black connectors for this are quite obvious, single wires with a black connector on it, one male, one female).

3. Turn ignition to on (engine off).

4. The Check Engine Light will do one of two things, do nothing (nothing in memory), or flash in a series of repeating long and short sequences. The latter indicates the trouble codes stored in memory. A long flash denotes a ten digit and a short one is a one. So one long flash followed by one short flash would be code 11 and three long flashes followed by 2 short ones will be 32. The individual codes will loop after each other continuously, with a short break between each code.

5. Turn ignition off.

6. Disconnect read memory connector.
