Exercise #2
Casting off for sleeve and neck
(An alternate method of decreasing these sts can be found on Page 50 of the Singer instruction book or under the heading "decreasing multiple stitches".)
· CO 15 - 0 - 15 with MY and K 10 rows at MT COR
· Cast off the next 3 stitches. ( To do this...move the next 3 stitches to NWP. Take yarn from out of carriage and crochet cast off all 3 stitches placing final stitch remaining on hook on the 4th stitch)
· Put a clothes peg on the stitches that you have cast off to keep them out of your way.
· K10 rows COR
· Put all needles in hold position except for the 4 stitches at opposite side of knitting to carriage. ie: needles L15 to L12 remain in working position...all others in hold position...
· Remove MY from the yarn feeder in the carriage and place it at the cut-out on the side of needle bed. (this is shown in the Singer Instruction Book on page 15 or in the section on "Knitting Stripe Pattern" if your pages do not correspond)
· Move Russell Levers to hold position ( I ) Using Release lever on top of carriage open carriage top and move carriage across needle be to left side of stitches in working position. (this is shown on page 62 in the Singer Instruction Book or under the section "If the carriage has jammed" ) Close top of carriage
· Attach waste yarn to carriage and holding end of waste yarn or tying it to a clamp under the bed.... Knit 6 rows.... over 4 sts. break waste yarn and run carriage accross to the right, dropping the 4 stitches.
· Put a close peg on the 4 sts to keep them out of the way. Replace main yarn in the carriage. Return Russel Levers to non holding position ( II ).
To Decrease for neck
(Shown on page 50 of the Singer Instruction Book or under the heading "Decreasing 1 stitch")
· With Transfer tool, move last stitch on right onto the next stitch.... ie move stitch on needle L 11 to needle L 10..... Put the empty needle out of work... push to back of bed.... Knit 2 rows.
· Repeat this process until you have cast off 5 sts at neck edge ( left side of carriage.)
· Remove MY and leaving a tail 3 x's the width of the remaining stitches cast the stitches off in waste yarn.. Remove from machine
· Block sample
