Colin Coyne

This interview was done by Rob Roy, on February 1st, 2004.

Rob-

Yo, state your full name sir.

Colin- Colin Terrence James Coyne.

Rob-

Fancy. How long have you been riding a

              skate?

Colin-

Well what do you count as a year (or season)?

Rob-

You’re drunk, when's the first time you

              stepped on a board?

Colin-

That would have been in Grade 7.

Rob-

What got you into it?

Colin-

Watching Greg Triff skating at the laundry

mat, it was some ghetto skate park in the trailer park.

(I don't live in the trailer park)

Rob-

That's crazy. Why do you keep skating,

living out in the boonies and all?

Colin-

Well I live way in the boonies, worse than

the Valley. I skate for fun and film and have a good

time and living in the valley is shllititiddy but good too, we

              have alright skate spots.....

Rob-

I'll take your word for it. Explain to the

readers what this NewAge bizznass is.

Colin-

Its just a skate group you could say that

consists of Westley St.Onge, Rob Denton, Zack Strong,

Dave Burton, Monroe Corbeil, and Me. West is the one

that thought of the name, we made a half a*s vid' as

              well.

Rob-

Tell me about the video.

Colin-

Well it all started when I got my first

digital video camera, back in the fall of 2002, I was in

grade 9. We started filming for the video to come out

the next fall... long story short the camera ate many

tapes so I brought it back and got a new one. [We] Filmed

like mad and edited the footy and put out the first

NewAge vid' called Casualties in the fall of 2003.

Rob-

Who's all in it?

Colin-

Westely, Rob, Zack, Curtis...Me, and some

              stupid mullets and what not.

Rob-

Define what a mullet is, because from your

five minute montage entitled "Mullet Hunter" I'm not sure

you know what a mullet is.

Colin-

(Laughs) Well it is short hair on the top and long hair

on the back, and I also filmed guys with funny hair cuts

              anyway.

Rob-

Fair enough. You seem to be obsessed with

Nirvana, what's the deal with that?

Colin-

True, I got into them in 1998 when I had to do

a music project on a band and research and what not.

Brett Lair, the filmer/photographer for NewAge told me

to check out this band Nirvana and at the time I was

into Korn and Limp Bizkit (chuckle), so I checked them out,

really liked their music, and bought all the cd's within

a month of researching them. I still to this day listen

to them on a regular  basis and have a "Nirvana shrine" in my room.

Check them out if you haven't heard of them.

Rob-

Do you think your video was up to par with

what people expect from a local video?

Colin-

Well you obviously where anticipating more

from me, so I think it was a bit below the average. To

much nonsense shizzam. Next year though it will be much

              better.

Rob-

That's usually how it works. Do you have any

              sponsors?

Colin-

Yeah.  Joel (Skadurz Pro) called me up out of the blue one day,

like I dropped of a sponsor me tape in the fall and he

called me up in Dec. and told me I was on the team for

next season and all that jazz.

Rob-

I hear you and another character are on the

"B" team. What do you have to say about that?

Colin-

I am pretty happy about that, I was so happy

when Joel called me, I am just happy that I finally got

              a small but neat sponsorship.

Rob-

That's a good way to look at it man. Who is

              your favorite skateboarder?

Colin-

Ryan Smith, Andrew Reynolds and Mark

Appleyard. Mark is the smoothest skater of all time.

Rob-

I hear that Bro. What's your favorite

              trick?

Colin-

My favorite trick to do would have to be

              K-grinds.

Rob-

Do you have a favorite board?

Colin-

No not really, I usually just skate blanks or

              ATM blanks.

Rob-

What pushes you to keep skating? motivation

              of it all.

Colin-

Learning a new trick always pushes me to go

              further.

Rob-

Best video part of the last year or so?

Colin-

Paul Machanou, in Red Dragon.

Rob-

Any shout outs?

Colin-

Umm yea, to West, Rob, Zack, Brett, Dave, and

              Monroe.

Rob-

I guess that's it man, unless you want to say

              something else?

Colin-

No, not really I got to go soon. I’m catching a bus

into Sudbury at 5:40 to go to the movies with Zack.

             Thanks for the interview Rob.

Rob-

Thank you sir Terrence.

Colin-

Rob, you know I’ll always be the minesweeper champ.

Rob-

No, son…
