Jon Knight
Anton-
What is your full name?
Jon-
Jonathan Roger Knight Wilson, I got both my parents names.
Anton-
How many years have you been skateboarding for?
Jon-
4 1/2. I think since grade 6, you do the math.
Anton-
Who or what have been your major influences?
Jon-
Probably my friends and the people that I skate with, Misinformed kr3w, and at first, Tony Hawk.
Anton-
What is the key to your determination and dedication, considering that we live in Sudbury, with long winters and few skatespots?
Jon-
Well... the fact that the skate season is so short is good motivation for me to want to progress the most and the fastest in the time that I can. And in the winter I snow skate and of course GT.
Anton-
Has this past season been good for you?
Jon-
Definitely... the past season has had to have been the best so far but I'm sure there will be better to come. I've also realised in the past season that Sudbury has allot of drunks and downtown is a pretty dangerous place...
Anton-
(Laughs) Are there any particular experiences you'd like to mention?
Jon-
Mainly the drunk lady at Farmers Market. The one with her son in Ceisel... she was pretty funny. Also the dancing guy at the cops station. The guy who "wasnt drunk....", he was pretty memorable too.
Anton says:
Were you pleased with your part in misinformed?
Jon-
Yah. I enjoyed it. I feel that I've progressed allot from the good ol' days of the POWERPHASE.. although it still lives on inside everyone of us...
Anton-
Definitely, you had allot more gnarly things in there...like the huge set at Tom Davies. Was that a big step for you, and your progression?
Jon-
Yes and no. I greatly enjoyed it. I like to be the first to do something. But I would have rather had a really technical trick instead. I need to practise my tech tricks.
Anton-
I see, it was definitely a crowd pleaser though, people like to see intense stuff like that.
Jon-
As long as there happy I'm happy.
Anton-
Are you on any teams or part of any sponsor deals?
Jon-
I'm on D&R Rails, Landozine, and of course Skadurz. (Thanks Joel) Joel does what he can for the team in terms of deals and such.
Anton-
That's awesome. It seems as if ever since you starred in Landozine, you've been known for going big, and pushing the 'gnar'. What's that all about, do you love going big?
Jon-
I just love to be in the air. I fell so free and its just an awesome feeling. I don't care if I'm on a GT a skateboard or skis its all the same. unless you get hurt, no one wants that.
Anton-
Who is your favorite skateboarder?
Jon-
Probably Koston. I met him at the Tampa Pro 2001 and I got a pic with him. He's really cool.
Anton-
That's intense....What's your favorite trick?
Jon-
I love to do frontside k-grinds. There cool and ollies of course
Anton-
Skating at night, or day?
Jon-
Hmm... Tough decision....Both, its all good. The night is good if you have lights because its cooler and its easier to skate. The day is good because the scary people haven't come out yet....
Anton says:
(Laughs) Are there any tricks you've been focusing on landing lately?
Jon-
I want to blunt a handrail. That's what I really want to land the most. I also am focussing on my switch tricks to try and spice it up a bit.
Anton-
What are your plans for winter, are you going to try and skate somewhere?
Jon-
I want to do some road trips to Shred Central in Toronto. And I will skate underground anytime I can. As long as its dry I will skate.
Anton-
That's cool, do you have anything else you'd like to add, before shout outs?
Jon-
I'd like to say to all the kids just starting to skate. Don't get discouraged. If things aren't working out just keep pushing and eventually you will things will come through. And especially what ever you do don't get frustrated. Skate to have fun. The last thing Sudbury needs is another Geeden. No one wants that, NO ONE.
Anton-
(Laughs) Alright. Shout outs?
Jon-
Ok. Id like to thank you for giving me this interview and taking all the pictures and setting up this awesome site, you have done allot for the skate scene in Sudbury. I would also like to thank all my sponsors. Especially Robin Roy for producing all the videos and taking the time to film everyone and edit all the footy and Joel St. Marseille for doing everything he's done for the sport of skateboarding and for hooking me up with a sponsorship. Also, I would like to thank the Sudbury skateboarders and all of my friends and Family...
Anton-
Is that all ?
Jon-
I hope so my fingers are tired.
Anton-
(Laughs) Alright then, I think that's all. Thank you for the interview, Jon Knight.
Jon-
Thank you, Tony.
