Chapter 3 *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "YAWN...." Sakura slowly opened her eyes. She had been sleeping in a cabin with Chiharu, Rika, Naoko, and Tomoyo. Her whole body ached after playing tag and scavenger hunting at the bottom of the mountains last night. She had tried to get a good night's sleep but the eerie feeling she felt yesterday kept coming back to her so she could get no rest. "Come one everybody! Get up!" shouted a very hyper Chiharu. "We're going to go hiking to the top of the mountain! Aren't you excited?" Everybody groaned as they visualized the long trek up. A sleepy Naoko threw a pillow at Chiharu. "Stop acting so cheerful at this time of day. You're going to wake up the whole camp with your hyperness!" "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I just can't wait!" Chiharu smiled. "Hmm, I know! I'll work out all my energy with my morning excercises while I'm waiting! And a 1...2...3...4! Up...down...left...right...! 2...2...3...4...Hey! You're covering me in pillows!" Suddenly, a knock came from the door. "I hope everyone had a good night's sleep! You're going to need it. We need to start early if we're going to make all the way up to the top." It was Mr. Terada. "Alrighty!" shouted Chiharu. "Coming..." Sakura mumbled in her half-asleep state. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Sakura and the rest of her group huffed and puffed as they walked steadily up the mountain. It was 11:40 and everyone was tired after walking for so many hours uphill. Sakura's stomach was also beginning to complain to her and her water bottle had been empty for a while now. "So, Chiharu? Have you had your hiking fun yet?" Tomoyo asked. "Well, I guess I am a bit tired, but this is still fun, right?" Chiharu asked without much enthusiasum. "You shouldn't have used up all that energy this morning," Rika admonished. "You look like you could use a break right now." "I think we all need a break," Sakura said. Just then, the students all came to a halt. Mr. Terada called out to the crowd. "We're going to stop for lunch here at this picnic area. Everybody find a seat and take out your lunches!" All the students gave a tired cheered. Sakura sighed with relief. She sat down with her friends at a nice shady spot in the grass. "I told you guys!" Chiharu said cheerfully. "This is going to be fun, you'll see." "Hey, that reminds me!" Naoko said. "We were supposed to look out for that cave! I asked Mr. Terada yesterday and he said it was fine so long as we didn't wander off track." "Oh yeah! That's right," Rika said. "I brought binoculars so we can check out the top of the mountain! The cave is supposed to be around there, right?" Sakura shivered. She did not like this sudden change of topic. "HEY! Guess what?" Yamazaki yelled right behind Sakura. He was sitting with Syaoran and a few friends near Sakura's group. "HOEEEE!!" Sakura yelped. Yamazaki was always surprising Sakura with his occasional outbursts. "Did you know? Binoculars got started by the ancient Egyptians. They would take leaves to make a tube for them to look through." Yamazaki said. "This way they could concentrate on the item they were looking at. Later Cleopatra III developed a way to put a piece of glass in so it could see farther. They called it a truth sphere." Tomoyo smiled. "Maybe he's actually telling the truth now?" "I doubt it," Chiharu replied. "Just wait and see." "Wow, really?" Syaoran was awed by Yamazaki's story. "That's pretty cool. The Egyptians can do anything huh?" "Yes. They began using it for rituals and cermonies, even marriages!" Yamazaki went on. "Umm..uh...marriages??" Syaoran asked. He was beginning to blush a little on his cheeks. "Oh, I forgot to say." Yamazaki creased his brows. "They had a superstition that whatever was seen through the truth sphere would be together because of their true feelings for one another. They would put a bride and groom together and then look at them through the truth sphere to wish them a happy marriage." "Hooee!? My dad never told me anything about that..." Sakura asked. "Hmm...well now...maybe next time I should switch back to the Edos..." Yamazaki started contempulating a new story. "Like I said...he'll never stop with the lies." Chiharu replied. "Um...uh...Syaoran?" Sakura asked. "Are you tired? Your face is all red." Sakura had no idea why Syaoran was looking so weird. Syaoran jumped at that statement and pretended to look up at the mountain to avoid her gaze. Suddenly there was a green flash at the top. Syaoran blinked his eyes as he felt another tremor go through him. "Did you just see that?" he asked Sakura. "Hm? What do you mean?" Sakura had not been paying attention to what was going on at the top. "I..I don't know," Syaoran looked grim. Sakura began to feel a little shivery as the wind picked up. "Alright everyone!" Mr. Terada shouted. "I hope you all rested well. It's time to get going again! When we get to the top, we'll ride the bus back down on the main road." Sakura was getting up when she saw Syaoran run off into the bushes. Sakura ran after him with Tomoyo who pulled out her videocamera, sensing some action was coming up. "Syaoran!" Sakura yelled. "Where are you going?" Syaoran was peering over the edge of a small cliff holding his sword when he turned around and looked her. "I..ah-!" Syaoran was beginning to answer when suddenly the ground started shaking. Sakura, Syaoran and Tomoyo both dropped to their knees as the earthquake struck. Suddenly Sakura and Syaoran both noticed a small crack appearing between them. "Syaoran! No!" Sakura crawled forward on her knees toward Syaoran as the crack got bigger and Syaoran was beginning to fall. Sakura saw his hand slip on the edge as his other one was holding the sword. Suddenly, the ground gave a violent shake as Syaoran lost his grip. Sakura cried, "NO! SYAORAN!!" as he fell holding his sword up. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Hey again! This one took a bit of time. Sorry I ended there! I just love cliff hangers. Especially if the character really is hanging off a cliff! MWHAHAHA! Ok, ok, you prolly think I'm super weird now....BUT like I was saying, enjoy!
