I served as a Peace Corps volunteer on the island of Yap, a traditional island in the Federated States of Micronesia. The FSM is located in the western Pacific.  Yap is unique because it has been able to maintain its culture while becoming a developed island state.  Stone money, traditional houses, distinct gender roles and traditional dress continue to be important aspects of Yapese culture.  Throughout my two years of service, I worked as a library and reading development volunteer at Maap Community School.
