Biography:

Before Kalasin
Cherylnobela Sadrini was Kalasin's mother. She was born to a nomadic tribe in Northern Africa that traded with the Carthaginian Empire. She was the daughter of the tribe's chieftain, her own mother was a woman from Carthage that Cherylnobela never met. She was a beautiful child, with a talent for raising horses and elephants. The horses and elephants that she helped her people raise were sold to the Carthaginian Army in exchange for various goods and services.
Cherylnobela and her best friend, Java, were known for their inability to stay with the tribe. They would often go out exploring. One day, whilst in the desert, they stumbled across a man. He could not speak their language, but Java was smitten with him completely from first laying eyes upon him. They took him back home with them, only to have Java fall totally in love with him. He took her away with him, to a foreign land called Greece, which at the time, Cherylnobela had never heard of.
Without Java, Cherylnobela still went exploring in the deserts, her mind filled with childlike fantasies of finding love in the desert. She was not to know that she would never feel true love in her lifetime. It was just not meant to be for the young Vezrit woman.
She was sent to Carthage one day by her father to collect some supplies for the Vezrit Tribe as they prepared to shift locations again. She gladly took the take, having always enjoyed the small jobs that she got to do because she was the daughter of the man in charge of the tribe. Upon arriving in Carthage, she was spotted by a man named Theodorus Augustus, who was the leader of a small groupd of troops that had accompanied a Roman diplomat to the Punic city. He immediately decided that he wanted the young Vezrit girl for the night and sent his troops after her. Though Cherylnobela could fight to some degree, she was no match for well-trained Roman soldiers, and was subdued quickly. She was then taken to Theodorus, who has his way with her for the night, and promptly had her dumped in the desert the next morning.
Cherylnobela was distraught that her virginity had been taken from her. She told her father, hoping that he could pull some strings and get her out of the fate that was awaiting her. The punishment for a Vezrit girl for losing her virginity before marriage was death. He could not save her from the council though, and Cherylnobela was taken captive for execution the next morning. That night, some men, hired by her father, broke Cherylnobela out of the tent that she was captive in, and took her to the docks in Zama, the nearest town. They told her that she could go anywhere that she wished.
She chose to go to Rome.
It was a couple of days later that Cherylnobela discovered that she was pregnant. She was infuriated at this news, and vowed that she would make Theodorus pay for his treatment of her. Recalling his name, she went to Rome and found the villa that he shared with his servants and his mother, Romana. He was away on a campaign in Spain at the time, and so Cherylnobela took the time to get to know Romana, and endear herself to the older woman. When Romana found out that Cherylnobela was with her son's child, she arranged for them to marry, sending word for Thedorus to sign the contract of marriage. He signed it, not knowing who he was marrying, as he had never learned the name of the young girl that he had raped in Carthage.
When he returned, he found himself not only with a wife, but with a daughter named Elena. He flew into a rage, and nearly killed both mother and child. He could not divorce Cherylnobela, or tell his mother it was all a lie, otherwise he would have to explain his actions in Carthage. So he had Cherylnobela's name changed to Lillian, and tried to settle down with his wife.
Cherylnobela however was angrier than sin with Theodorus. She hated him beyond everything else in the world, and did not kill him then only for Elena. However, as the wife of a Roman man, she had to produce heirs, especially seeing that he was a highly ranking Roman. They managed to produce six more children, including a set of twins. The youngest of these children was christened Kalasin Dido, younger than her twin sister Dreyanne by an hour.
Throughout the years, Cherylnobela had been setting up a plot to kill the emperor of Rome so that she could frame Theodorus for it. She spent all her time working out the intricacies of the plot, and how to make it look more convincing. She slept with most of the Senate to get information that would eventually lead to her husband's, and her own, demise.
Kalasin Dido - The Early Years
Kalasin Dido was different to her brothers and sisters. From a very young age, it was clear that she was anti-social, she would often fight with other children, and preferred to do things either by herself, or with her mother and Dreyanne. She was an incredibly beautiful child, and though identical to her twin sister, she had a little something extra that elevated her beauty above that of Dreyanne.
She spent all of her time either with Cherylnobela, or learning. Kalasin Dido loved to study everything, from sewing to fighting. Theodorus did not like his youngest daughter, as it was shown from the young age that he knew her from, that Kalasin Dido was very much like her mother. She looked slightly more exotic than Theodorus cared for, and her first words were not in Latin, but in Vezrit. He insisted that Kalasin Dido get tutored in Latin from the time she was five so that she would not speak in a foreign tongue. After her two years of intensive lessons, the results were a girl that despite being very young, was very articulate.
She liked to question people that came into her life, as was shown when any soldier or bard came past the Augustus villa. She would pay the bards to tell her a tale, and ask the soldiers about the battle's that they had fought. The end result of her education was a very smart young girl, who could quite easily hold her own in a conversation with adults. However, when she was seven that education ended abruptly.
Cherylnobela's plot to have Theodorus killed finally sprung into action in Kalasin Dido's seventh year. She had a friend set up the evidence that led the people of Rome to believe that not only had Theodorus planned to kill the Emperor, but Cherylnobela had helped him in his plot. Cherlynobela did not care that she incriminated herself and her family. Over the years, her hatred for him had reached such a point that she was willing to kill almost all of her family to get rid of him.
It was the night of the festival of Bacchus when the soldiers came to their villa. Kalasin Dido and Dreyanne were playing in their room when Cherylnobela came in and told them to put on some slaves clothes. She told them that they would have to play a game, in which they would have to try and fool the soldiers into thinking that they were slaves. In truth, Cherylnobela simply couldn't stand to see Kalasin Dido, who was clearly her favourite, killed by the Roman soldiers. And since she knew that her youngest would not go anywhere without her twin, she got Dreyanne to do the same.
When the soldiers came, Kalasin Dido and Dreyanne convinced them that they were slave children. Kalasin Dido, who by this time preferred to be called Kalasin, as she considered her name to be too long, did so by speaking Vezrit, and having Dreyanne act as her translator, though Dreyanne did not know a single bit of the language. They were taken into the next room while the family was rounded up. Kalasin listened carefully to everything that was going on. She heard her sisters being raped and killed, and she heard her mother scream curses at Theodorus, then accept the soldiers having their way with her, encouraging them, moaning like a whore and begging for more so that Theodorus would see that he could never satisfy her. She was then tortured and killed, along with the rest of the family. The only members of the family to survive were Dreyanne, Kalasin, Marcus and Maia. Maia had been living in Egypt since before Kalasin was born, and she never knew of her existence, Marcus managed to escape while the guards weren't looking and fled to Egypt to stay with Maia.
Kalasin and Dreyanne escaped from the soldiers and went to their grandmother's house. Romana, their grandmother, took them in gladly, and raised them as her own. Kalasin managed to continue parts of her education, focusing mostly on politics, history, business and geography. Dreyanne on the other hand studied cooking, sewing and religion. She was particularly fascinated with the Cult of Artemis.
Romana wanted her daughters to marry into good families, and from the time they turned eleven, she was trying to pawn them off. Dreyanne was snapped up almost immediately. She was everything that a Roman man could want. Kalasin on the other hand, received a lot of interest for her looks and lineage, but her personality killed any chances that she had with any of the men that expressed interest in her. She had grown into a supremely confident, incredibly smart, very articulate young Roman, and was not scared to express her opinions on anything. While this was endearing to people when she was a child, now that she was a teen, it was frowned upon. Her life was supposed to focus upon attracting a husband, rather than on who would win the up and coming senate elections based upon the areas of Rome that they came from.
When the twins were twelve, they were finally separated. Dreyanne was married to her husband, a senator of some repute. Kalasin sat outside on the stairs of the Temple of Juno when she decided that she wanted nothing to do with the procession that was taking place. She went to the Temple of Minerva, the goddess of Wisdom and Weaving. In those days, thoughts of battle never occurred to her. She decided, after consulting with a priestess, that she would avoid marrying for the moment. She wanted to see the world.
So that night, she took some of her things and fled Rome, taking the first boat out of the city. She ended up in Phoenicia, where she remained for a month, trying to master some of the language. She could speak a little Punic beforehand, but after refreshing her skills, learned it to near fluency. For a while, she stayed with the followers of Astarte, learning their culture. She had her first kiss from a boy when she was there. His name was Tibran, and he was the son of one of the priestess' of the goddess Anat. It was then that Kalasin learned that she could use her incredible good looks to get what she wanted. She spent her month in Phoenicia learning how to flirt with men to get what she wanted out of them, a skill that served her well afterwards.
She later learned of a group of healers in the land of the Hindu people. Having decided that she wanted to become a healer, Kalasin set off for India, totally unaware of what laid before her in the East, where her soul would be virtually destroyed, and would remain so for many, many years.
Heading Out East
Just before she left Phoenicia, Kalasin decided that she wanted to invite Tibran with her. He was sixteen, a good four years her senior, and he had traveled to Arabia before, which in Kalasin's eyes was enough to qualify him to take her to India. They got as far as the River Euphrates when Tibran decided that he wanted to turn back to Phoenicia.
Kalasin did not agree with him, and after a heated argument, she abandoned him, cursing his name for lying to her by saying that he would remain with her until she reached her destination. She continued her path to India, hoping to find one of the healers that she had heard so much about.
On her way there, she stopped at an inn for a few nights, hoping to regain her energy before she tackled the mountain passes that would eventually lead her to India. She was spotted by a few men, that saw fit to try and rape her while she was asleep. The young Kalasin didn't take too well to being attacked, and fought back. It resulted in three dead men. Kalasin did not understand how she had managed to kill three men, but she liked it. She liked the power that she could have over life and death, and it was not the kind of power that she had originally desired over life and death.
She decided that she would not go to India, she would in fact head a little further north and continue to the East. She had heard rumors of great warriors that resided in the East, and she wished to go there and learn from them so that she could become a defender of the people.
That was not what the gods had in store for her though. There were prophecies in the East of a woman that would come from a land of the setting sun who would bring ruin on the Kingdom of Chin. Kalasin got lost in the mountains on the way to Chin, and it as by luck that she stumbled upon a monastery. There she met a man named Li Shang, a warrior monk. He became attached to the twelve-year-old girl that wanted to learn to be a warrior, and decided that he would teach her.
However, there was more to Kalasin than a lot of people thought. Whilst Li Shang taught her the things that she would need to survive, Kalasin quickly got bored. Li Shang had unearthed an enormous potential in Kalasin Augustus. She studied the language of Chin, and learned everything that she could of the nation and those around it. In the meantime she easily surpassed her mentor in fighting ability, and continued her studies under various other tutors.
However, by this time, she had become twisted. Se had not been allowed to develop emotionally, and because of her lack of friendship and support, Kalasin became sadistic and incredibly nasty to be around. Li Shang did not discover this until he saw her spar with, and kill, a master. It was only then that he realised that they had allowed a monster to be created. The only thing that he could think to do was send her out into the mountains to a dead end and hope that she never found her way out.
Kalasin was nearly fourteen when she walked out of the doors of the monastery. By the time she was out of the mountains, she was one month past her fourteenth birthday. She was incredibly bitter about the betrayal and killed every single person in her path. She had decided that she would go to Jappa, take over by killing the Emperor, and lead the army of Jappa, which she had learnt was one of the most powerful armies of the era, and destroy Chin for what they had done to her.
She arrived in Himeji a good three months after her fourteenth birthday. Himeji was a city that thrived off the fishing industry, and the fortress that was built in the middle of it to protect the capital from foreign invasion. She studied the city from the outside for a few weeks, becoming nothing more than an animal in the mean time. She killed any man, woman or child that came across her during her time outside the city. She used the meat on their bones for food, as meat was scarce around that area during that time of the year, and stole their clothing to make her own.
After a couple of weeks, she got sick of waiting around, and started to look for a way into the city. However, before she could make it into the city, she ran into five samurai warriors who were on scouting duty. She instantly attacked them all, killing four of them.
One of the warriors, Hiroshi Yamamoto, hung back from the battle until all of his companions were dead. Kalasin thought that perhaps he was the weak one, and attacked him straight after she was done with the other four. However, she was far outclassed. Her savagery and raw speed were nothing compared to Hiroshi's discipline and swift movements. It was the first time that anyone had ever beaten Kalasin.
Within a few moments, he had her on the ground and had a long dagger to her throat. However, upon looking into her eyes, Hiroshi found that he could not lose his blood innocence by killing this one. He saw the tremendous potential that laid within her, and decided that he would tame her.
He took her back to Himeji, and within two weeks of their meeting, that had been married. Hiroshi had fallen in love with Kalasin, who was officially renamed Maika Yamamoto, and nicknamed Ikari, the Japanese word for 'wrath'. He taught her the language of Jappa in exchange for learning the languages of the West, or as he called it, the lands of the setting sun.
Kalasin and Hiroshi lived in relative peace until a few weeks after her fifteenth birthday, when Kalasin discovered that she was pregnant to Hiroshi, who was twenty-one at the time. She freaked out and without hesitation, fled to Chin. She sought refuge with Li Shang, who, though reluctant at first, agreed to take the baby once it was born. The child was named Alia Augustus Yamamoto, and was renamed by Li Shang to Li Ailiu.
It was then that Kalasin was informed that Chin had launched an attack on Jappa. Her fury, which she had kept under control for a long time, resurfaced, and she went on a mission to decimate the royal family of Chin for daring to attack the people of Jappa. She went to the capital, and succeeded in killing over half of the family before news reached her that Chin had withdrawn.
She rushed back to Jappa, where she found Hiroshi waiting for her. She believed that he would kill her, but he was not angry with her at all. The resumed their lives, though they were anything but ordinary, as Hiroshi's father had abdicated as Lord of Himeji, leaving Hiroshi as the Lord of Himeji. Kalasin was put in charge of all domestic matters, whilst Hiroshi was in charge of the army and defense of the city. They ruled well together.
When Kalasin was sixteen, the Emperor of Jappa decided that he would attack Chin as revenge for their attack earlier. Both Kalasin and Hiroshi were selected to go to Chin to be a part of the force, Kalasin for her skills in cartography, and her knowledge of the area, Hiroshi for his supreme skills on the battlefield. The battles were fought, Jappa winning a lot of them.
However, one afternoon Hiroshi did not return from a border skirmish.
This sent Kalasin into a panic, and she rushed about trying to find her husband. She spent two months looking for him before deciding to give up her life in the East. She was nothing without Hiroshi. The young woman needed him around her, his support of her was crucial to her mental state. Kalasin fled back west, reverting to the bloodthirsty creature that she had been before meeting Hiroshi.
