Bridging the Gap for Better Communication

Definition: The forms of communication offered to patients who cannot speak or whose communication attempts are unitelligble and to those who require help to overcome word-finding difficulties.

Systems are described as being

1. high-tech - operated by mechanical, electronic or computerised means

2. Low-tech - comprises sign languages, gesture systems and communication charts or boards.
