This mailing list provides a way for our community to circulate announcements and discussions among those who choose to participate. Discussions and postings are generally about Sufi Movement in Canada activities.

What is an eGroup?

An eGroup is like a bulletin board, that operates on the Internet. Anyone who joins the eGroup can post messages that other members will see. Each member can choose the method they prefer for viewing the messages. Most members are choosing to receive messages in their e-mail box. A few have chosen to visit the web site to pick up messages. Current traffic is about 1 or 2 messages per day.
In Internet terms, an eGroup is a hybrid between a mailing list and a webforum. Subscribers can post and receive notices to the eGroup at the web site or through e-mail.

Two major advantages have led to the selection of this software for our community mailing list:

Individuals can set up their own preferences for reading messages: you may choose to receive all postings in your e-mail box, or you may choose to read the messages at the eGroups web site.
Member information may be shared or not, based on each subscriber's preferences.

Delivery Mode

The group posting can be delivered to your e-mail box individually, or bundled in digests. Unless you specify otherwise, you will receive your messages *normal* style. (You will receive your messages one at a time, as they are sent out).
Digest format bundles the day's messages and beams them out once a day.
Read messages at web site: for those who do not want e-mail from the group but would still like to read the messages from time to time.

eGroup Attributes

We have had to make several decisions about the list attributes. These are all subject to debate and change.

Safe for kids: this means be careful what you say. I have ejection powers, and will use them if this is not strictly adhered to.

Not moderated: this means that messages which are sent to the list, go directly to all subscribers, without any screening by a moderator.

Not restricted: this means that anyone may join the mailing list. However, new member's posts are initially moderated.

A listed group at eGroups.com. This means that anyone may join the Sufi Movement in Canada eGroup.

Profiles of subscribers may be made available for viewing. - each subscriber can make their own decision.

Only members can post to the group, and postings to the egroup are only available for viewing by members only.
