Phase 1
This is the first writer that submitted a poem, its your turn now!

Princess

It comes up in everything you do

The way you talk, the words that come from your mouth

Although you will never admit it,

Your belief is that you are one of immaculate wisdom.

Miss ostentatious, did you ever stop to think

That maybe you aren’t the center of the universe?

You hate this, you can’t stand that.

Is anything worthy of you?

High-maintenance is your middle name,

Pleasing you is physically exhausting,

Always a demeaning response

Making conversation with you virtually impossible

Since you do it all by yourself.

Always correcting, always controlling

Leaving everyone in contact with you on tip toes

Trying to please you.

Your highness,

Do you even realize that a whole other world exists besides your own?

Will you ever see that you are pushing away those that care about you?

When will you get off your high horse

And give others a chance

Princess?

Plastic Smiles

I feel the eyes on me everywhere I go

Daring me to make a move, daring me to be better

My color is seen as a defect to me,

Something that holds me back

Never are they openly cruel or abusive,

But their ignorance comes through in their sugar coated words

Behind plastic smiles they see me as inferior.

Worse than the actual physical display of racism is an uglier kind

The kind you know is there but is never spoken.

They say “keep your friends close and your enemies closer”

And so it is in our “politically correct” world.

Everyone on tiptoes dancing around what they truly feel,

That we are never truly equal.

So more and more of us are being born with that same slave mentality

That we can do no better than we have been made to believe.

Not only do we do nothing to rise against the inferior standards set for us,

We allow our unity to crumble with our “each man for himself” policy

When one of us does something to rise up, there has to be a rumor behind it.

Always a cold empty smile when we pass each other on the streets,

shutting each other out in a world where we have already been singled out.

How can we expect equality in their world when we are so divided in ours?

Blueprint to Life

Journey with a loving heart and an open mind

Do not be consumed by the superficial fantasies of today’s woman

Love freely

"hate is the absence of love"

And slowly it consumes your heart.

Do not masquerade yourself in order to prove your beauty

Ebony queen, the smoothness of your skin and the deepness

Of your eyes is a source of envy for others.

However your true beauty lies within your heart.

Walk with your head up high

Some might call you arrogant,

But your history is one of great essence

Many before you fought that you could get the chance to shine.

So take every step with pride because you represent the dreams of an entire race.

Life is so much shorter than you know, and you only get one chance at it

So make the best of your time here.

Do not be consumed by your own “problems”

Because someone out there is dying

To get the chance you’ve got.

Literally.

Believe in yourself ‘cause no one else can do it for you.

Love like you want to be loved,

Give freely and it will come back to you.

Every person has a purpose in life

Trying to fight this purpose is what is destroying us today.

Forgive, even though you may not forget.

Be willing to give second chances,

Because someday you’re going to need onetoo.

Strive for perfection,

Your purpose in life is so much bigger than you know.

Do not burden yourself with ill feelings,

Simply

"love life, honor God."

Human Bonfires

I walk down streets flooded with hatred,

Walking by once lively homes now empty.

The families that once lived there

Killed in yesterday’s barbeque,

My best friend was one of the unlucky ones.

Strung in a row from a bridge,

Cursed at by an angry mob.

I hid in the shadows watching as they

Doused them in oil one by one and repeatedly dipped in flames.

Then they dumped their bodies in the river

In a sickening attempt to hide the evidence of their morbid acts.

Horrified by the images I saw, I ran,

Knowing in my mind that they would soon come for me.

Mortifying images of corpse dangling form a bridge flashed through my mind

I envisioned my face on one of the bodies,

I knew that I was next.

All they need is a reason, anything to gratify their consciences

Then nothing would stop them.

Their reason is my color

Paranoia suffocates me as I wait for my turn

I can still hear their chanting, “DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!”

Soon they will be chanting for me.

Now I hear them chanting louder,

Fear washes over me as I look around.

I see the white sheets advancing towards me torches in their hands,

Tonight’s barbeque has begun. I’m next on racisms grill

My mutilated flesh its ultimate trophy.
