moulin rouge staring nicole kidman and ewan mcgregor
If anyone had warned me what this movie was going to be like, I would not have thrown away 2 hours of my life watching it. Excess is the key word here, directed by Baz Luhrman, this modern day musical takes everything too far. The movie is dark and flashy at the same time if that's possible, and there is entirely too much music. The editing is choppy and puts off a constant sense of chaos. Luhrman is apparently so desperate to hold our attention that he sometimes forgets to tell us where to look. The camera swings back and forth without giving a moment to linger in the movies romance, which is the basis of the story. On a positive note, none of the actors voices were dubbed, all singing is actually done by them. Perhaps ewan mcgregor will be the next ricky martin? I give this movie 2 stars, one for the costumes and one for the cast. |
