April 2004 -
A new rumor has sprung up over the last few weeks.
Rosey the S.H.I.T will soon get annoyed with Hurricane's teaching ways and will
turn on his Mentor. This has even been suggested by WWE's Informer in the WWE
Magazine.
It has still yet to be confirmed but rumor has said that the
storywriters have had it planned all along. We have still yet to know what will
occur for the super duo to break up, but the words 'Tag Team Titles' have been
thrown around.

Shane "Hurricane" Helms sat down for an interview with our friends at "The
Voice of Wrestling" radio show last night. Helms is very happy with his role in
the WWE right now and is enjoying working with his S.H.I.T partner. "[Rosey] is
having a lot of fun doing the entertaining, comedic stuff that we've been
doing," Helms said. "But I'm trying to get that angry side back out of him that
he had when he was part of 3 Minute Warning." Helms' ultimate
goal is to one
day hold the World Title. "I'm young and hopefully still got many years to go,
so I think it's a goal that can be achieved. That's what I'm working for." You
can listen this entire interview by clicking here: http://www.voiceofwrestling.com/
---------------------
Chris
Chisum with the Voice of Wrestling had the opportunity to talk with the
“Hurricane”, Shane Helms, on a variety of issues including WCW, 3 Count, Jimmy
Hart’s influence on his career, the Cruiserweight Division from WCW and WWE (or
lack there of), plus much more. You can listen to the interview in its entirety
by visiting www.voiceofwrestling.com, plus be sure to check out other interviews
with
wrestling’s top stars including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ric Flair,
Sable, Rob Van Dam, Chris Jericho, Sid Vicious, and many more! Talks started off
with Hurricane talking about his tag team partner and Super Hero In Training,
Rosey. Chris asked whether Rosey was ready for the “big thing” yet. “I think
people are going to be surprised when we can finally unleash that mean side.
He’s having a lot of fun doing the entertaining, comedic stuff that we’ve been
doing, but I’m trying to get that angry side back out of him that he had when he
was apart of 3 Minute Warning. Shane explains his preference of working singles
matches as opposed to tags as liking the fact that everything is on him while
he’s in the ring. “If anything goes wrong or right, it’s all on me,” he says,
“and I don’t really have to rely on anybody else. I don’t really like relying on
anybody else, but with that being said, I actually am better at tag team
matches”. The reason for this is that Shane feels his creativity in tag matches
is pretty good and better than when he is by himself. On the same token, he
would really like to be given the opportunity to work single’s matches as he
does quite often on house shows. “The fans’ response to my single’s matches has
always been really good. As long as that’s the case, my chances will come
again”. Chris and Shane then jumped into a serious conversation about the
Cruiserweight Division in both WCW and WWE. Shane reminisces a little about his
last couple of matches in WCW. Chris remembers the six-way elimination match
where Shane defeated five other Cruiserweights to become the Number One
Contender for the title. On whether that match was a highlight of his career, he
said that it definitely was. “As far as personal performances, that’s probably
one of my top five”. Back when wrestling was popular in WCW, Shane feels that
the Cruiserweight Division was one of the major causes for that success, so he
definitely wishes WWE would place more emphasis on that division. “It gives them
[fans] an alternative to the big, muscle-bound guys,” he states, “so I
definitely think that there’s a huge place for that in wrestling”. Jimmy Hart
was the one who thought of the 3 Count group in WCW, according to Shane. At that
time, WCW Officials were letting a lot of the cruiserweights that they had just
hired go, but Shane feels he and Shannon were safe from that chopping block. “I
was actually filming ‘Ready to Rumble’ at the time, so I was probably safe. But
Jimmy did keep the 3 Count idea on the shelf until I came back from filming and
as soon as I came back, we started doing the 3 Count stuff”. Shane feels there
were a lot of “missed opportunities” with 3 Count. “We generated an incredible
amount of heat as far as there being heels in a company,” Shane says claiming
the group probably drew more than their top heels at the time. The lack of
support from the creative department is the reason it did not succeed to the
point it could have. “That was a gimmick that if Vince McMahon had it, he would
have exploited it to its end and made a lot money off of it”. Shane’s goals for
the future are to continue doing what he’s doing working with Rosie in the tag
division (of course would another more chance at Tag Team Championships as
well), but eventually would like to make that next step and shoot for the
Heavyweight Championship. “I’m young and hopefully still got many years to go,
so I think it’s a goal that can be achieved. That’s what I’m working
for”.
It appeared that Hurricane may have suffered a legitimate injury early in the tag team turmoil match when he totally botched a move over the top rope. The referee went to check on him, but Hurricane stuck it out and continued the match.
At the 12/12 Raw brand house show at Madison Square Garden, the Hurricane
once again used the chokeslam in his match against Test despite being told not
to use it anymore. Also to make matters worse, he did it at a transition spot
instead of a finisher. From what we have been told, he was given a lashing by
the agents about it. He was told to stop doing the move because he was too small
to do it; plus it is Kane's finisher.
---------------------
Hurricane
Shane Helms went against company orders at the December 12th RAW brand house
show at Madison Square Garden in New York City by using the chokeslam on Test.
To make things worse, he used the move as a transition spot instead of a
finisher. WWE officials gave him a stern lecture and ordered him to stop using
the manoeuvre because he really couldn't do it and that it was Kane's
finisher.
---------------------
While he was scolded for using a chokeslam
last week at a house show, Hurricane Helms was apparently given permission to do
so by road agents. There seems to be confusion within the creative team with
regard to the move being performed by smaller wrestlers. Hurricane even asked
Kane for permission to use the move and because of the size difference between
the two, Kane gave Hurricane the go-ahead to use
it.
---------------------
There is no truth to a report that Shane
"Hurricane" Helms has been told to stop using the chokeslam in his repertoire of
moves. The report in question was posted a few week's ago on 1Wrestling.com and
reared its ugly head again yesterday. The funny thing here is that Helms has
used the chokeslam at almost every WWE event since he became "The Hurricane". A
Wrestling 365 reader in the know contacted Helms for comment and was told by the
man himself: "Nobody has ever told me I wasn't allowed to use the
chokeslam."
Hurricane will appear on Byte This. He was a replacement guest for Mick Foley
and is only on for two-three minutes. His part is about 55 minutes into the
show.
Unfortunately no Foley this week as his meeting with wounded soldiers
has gone on longer than expected. Josh rightly points out that they would never
drag him away from something like that.
Instead we're joined by the
Hurricane. At this point you really have to feel sorry for Josh Matthews – if
the Hurricane makes fun of you – you know you are entering Losersville. He had a
good Thanksgiving, and gained a few pounds around the Hurri-belly.
Hurricane
believes the elimination match at Armageddon will see two teams starting out,
and as one is eliminated another enters.
Hurricane will later today be
involved in the Christmas Day Parade in his home town!

Hurricane is shown backstage, apparently going over his
match in his head. Rosey appears, pacing back and forth in front of his mentor.
He's worried about his match with Rob Conway since the Hurricane was defeated
earlier in the night by Dupree. Hurricane jumps to his feet.
"Beat? Me, beat?
The Hurricane, beat? No, no, no, young Roosevelt. If you never learn anything
from me again, learn this: I may lose matches, I've lost before, I will lose
again. But the Hurricane will never be beaten. Take me down, I'll rise back up.
I will always fly again. And you, young Rosey, the Super Hero in Training that
you are, you go out there and show Rob Conway that you, too, got
Hurri-Powers...beeeeeotch!"
Hurricane's inspirational speech pumps Rosey up
and he flies off. Hurricane smiles and says, "Should evil once again come into
play, the Hurricane will be there to save the day." With that, he flies
away.

WWF agents in the back at RAW have told Shane "Hurricane" Helms that he is no longer allowed to use the Chokeslam as his finisher for any reason whatsoever. The move began as a somewhat of a rib on Helms because of his super hero gimmick and the fact that he's supposed to have some "super human like tendencies". However, the general feeling among company officials is that Hurricane is way too small to be putting the move on anyone.

didn't have any contacts with the World Wrestling Entertainment so I really
didn't know if they even knew who "Sugar" Shane Helms was at the time so...(he

Brock Lesnar: Here Comes the Pain
Shane
Helms is featured on the WWE Home Video release "Brock Lesnar: Here Comes
the Pain". His comments are included on a variety of topics dealing with
the current WWE Champion.
On Brock...
"Brock, from the get-go, had this
magnetism about him that made you want to watch. That was the first thing
I noticed. Cause where he come from, there was a lot of big guys, you
know, from the Ohio Valley Wrestling. But you watched Brock. There's
something about Brock that made you want to watch him. That's always a
clue to me whether someone has it inside to be a big star."
On facing
Brock...
"First time on the television in the ring with Brock Lesnar, I was
in the ring with Mighty Molly. He slid in the ring - I did amateur seven
years, I medaled thirty-two times. So I'm thinking in my head 'I can get
away from this guy if I want to.' And he shot a double leg that was so
fast..he got me. I was thinking I could get away. That was my saving
grace. This guy's a monster, I'll outrun him if I need to. But then
I couldn't, 'cause he caught me and scooped me up, you know, like a feather and
slammed me. You know, with so much strength, even if he doesn't mean to
slam you hard, it's going to be hard. And Brock's intents are to make it
hard - twice as hard. So we did that and an F-5 later...that's an
incredible move. I've only took it once, and as I've told other people,
once was enough for me. I mean, you just knew that when it started
happening, when he started coming through the crowd initially, the way people
responded to him. That, you know, his catchphrase is
'the next big
thing', but you could already see that he was a big thing currently."
On
Brock vs Taker - Hell in a Cell...
"I thought the story there was very
dramatic. You know, in watching the match, that's when I become a fan
again. I relive my childhood. That's real blood, real sweat, real
beatings. When you hit that fence, there's nothing you can do.
That's a steel fence, steel chair, so they beat the hell out of each
other. It was drama in a great form."
On Brock missing the Shooting
Star Press at WrestleMania 19...
(Chuckling) "You know that high-flyin'
stuff, you might need to leave that to the little guys. The guys with the
capes."
Closing remarks on Brock...
"It's like Michael Jordan's last
year. I was always telling my friends, 'Watch him 'cause when he's gone,
he's gone.' That's the way I see a person like Brock Lesnar, someone who
has that level of being a phenomenon. You got to watch it, and watch it
every minute you can. Because when it's gone, it's gone. And I don't
want to miss a second."

Hurricane injured his knee on the September 22nd edition of Raw.
An Article in Wrestler Digest suggests that Hurricane and Lance Storm may be a Tag Team force to recon with
After one Raw Hurricane, Dudleyz and Rosey greeted all the military servicemen and women that were injured during the war. They were special guest from the Walter Reed Medical Centre.
Rumours are going around That Hurricane and Rosie will defeat La Resistance for the World Tag Team Championships
Shane "Hurricane" Helms and Rodney Mack got into a legit backstage fight at a
RAW brand house show in Knoxville, TN. Helms had apparently told Mack how he
wanted to lay out their tag match (Hurricane & Rosey vs. Mack & Mark
Henry). Mack then put in his ideas as well, which upset Helms who felt that
since he was the veteran, he should get to lay out the match. The two then
exchanged words and a fight broke out. The fight took place in the press area of
the building, and resulted in Hurricane being taken to the hospital. The fight
was the likely reason as to why WWE changed the Hurricane/Rosey vs. Mack/Henry
tag matches on the weekend house shows. Instead, Hurricane & Rosey took on
Tommy Dreamer & Steven Richards while Mack & Henry took on Mark Jindrak
and Garrison Cade.
---------------------
One of the big stories this week
was a fight backstage between Rodney Mack and The Hurricane at a weekend house
show.
There are different perceptions of what caused the fight, but
generally, it is felt that Hurricane was complaining about the fact that Rodney
Mack and Mark Henry were not selling enough for he and Rosey, that no one should
kick out of his finisher at the house shows, and that he should be responsible
for laying out the match. Mack, however, felt that it should've been a back and
forth effort, which didn't make Hurricane too happy. It is then said that Mack
believed Hurricane deliberately stiffed Mack at one point in the match Saturday,
so the fight broke out later that night.
The word is that the fight was
extremely short and Hurricane had no chance. Apparently, he also gashed his head
open after being hit by Mack into some sort of shelving on the wall.
Additionally, there are conflicting reports as to whether Hurricane was
cheapshotted, or if he actually told Mack to "bring it
on".
---------------------
There's been some
discussion about this. I don't think Shane spent any REAL time in the
hospital. The report I read was that Mack knocked him into some sort of
metal shelving and caused a gash on Shane's head. He was more than likely
stitched up and sent on his way since he wrestled for the rest of the
weekend. I really wouldn't be shocked at all if Shane told Mack to bring
it on. He gives me the impression he's got a temper and isn't afraid of
anyone, no matter how big or small.
Somebody sent into a link to an
interview with Kevin Kelly, and Kelly commented on Shane's confrontation with
Buff. Buff's story goes he made a snide comment to Shane, Shane made one
back, Buff made another, Shane responded with another. Buff ended up
smacking Shane, but Shane blasted him with a frozen water bottle, which resulted
in Buff getting like 20 stitches. Kevin Kelly said Buff kicked Shane's
ass, but I don't think that's true. Because wouldn't that be the story
Buff would tell if he really did? I've met Buff once, but I'm going to see
him wrestle this weekend so I think I shall ask him about it when/if I get to
talk to him again.
---------------------
The way I was told
was that Mack pushed Shane after Ideas didn't match resulting in a BackStage
Brawl
---------------------
Rodney Mack and Shane Helms (The Hurricane)
got into a real fight backstage at the 9/13 RAW house show in Knoxville, TN. The
altercation took place following a heated discussion about who should call the
spots in their matches. The fight didn't last long and Mack took Helms down very
quickly, according to observers. Apparently both men sat down this past
weekend and aired their grievances. They later parted company after
shaking hands and both have put the incident behind
them.

The
Hurricane Asks: What More Do I Have to Do?
By Aaron Williams (pages
42-46)
One would think that beating The Rock and Ric Flair, and taking the
World Champion to the limit in a non-title match would be enough to earn a
Superstar some degree of respect, much less a shot at the World Championship.
Think again.
It was only a few months ago that The Hurricane accomplished
these feats. Yet, he seems no closer to getting a shot at the World title
today than he did the day he arrived in WWE. The question is,
why?
Gregory Helms has proven that he can compete with anyone on the Raw
roster. He has proven that when it comes to the "entertainment" side of
sports-entertainment there are few, if any, who are better, and he has proven
that he can fill arenas and sell merchandise as well as anyone.
The Hurricane
himself believes that he deserves a title shot.
"There's no doubt that I
should get the chance to compete for the World Championship. I beat The
Rock. If that doesn't make you a top contender, I don't know what
does."
There are many in the industry who feel that a man running around in a
mask and cape cannot be taken seriously, and thus should be not given a chance
to prove his mettle by fighting for the championship or headlining a
pay-per-view. Is this a correct assumption, or an outdated philosophy that
needs to be permanently shelved?
"If you look at Hollywood right now, I'm the
closest thing to what's working," says Helms. "Look at X-Men, look at The
Hulk. Talk about big money! I'm the closest thing we have to
that. There are lot of people wearing my mask and cape. Now we have
a necklace, a key chain, and stuffed dolls. People like The
Hurricane. Being as crazy as I am, I think I get the same negative stigma
as the comic book industry in general gets. Some people think it's only
for kids. But judging from all the money that Spider-Man and X-Men made,
it's not just kids who like this stuff."
I think for every kid I have as a
fan, there's a parent right there with them," he adds. "I think I'm worthy
of headlining a pay-per-view. If you're selling merchandise, you're also
selling tickets. If somebody shows up and they have my T-shirt and mask,
they came to see me. Look, the mask and cape are just what I wrestle
in. Undertaker wrestles in blue jeans or leather pants. That's his
thing. Matt Hardy likes to wear baggy pants. That's his thing.
The Hurricane likes to dress as a superhero."
Well, if it isn't the mask and
cape, it's certainly not about paying dues. The Hurricane has paid
his. He's worked for free, spent endless nights on the road travelling to
his next match, and worked his butt off in front of only a handful of people on
the independent circuit.
"I've been in this business nearly 13 years," he
explains. "I think paying dues is working hard without the big
paycheck. A lot of guys have been in WWE for years and they talk about
paying dues, but they're still making big money. To me, paying dues is
sleeping in your car, making $40 a night when you're in the Indies. It's
not working for the WWE making big money all these years."
So if The
Hurricane can't get his shot, and it's not about paying dues or the mask and
cape, then is it about his size?
"I'm in a weird situation where I'm one of
the bigger cruiserweights and one of the smaller heavyweights. I don't let
size bother me though. I've won the Cruiserweight Championship
twice. I'd like to move on and go for the World Championship. I've
won the European title and the Tag Team titles as well, so I've proven that I
can compete at the heavyweight level. As far as saying a smaller guy can't
sell tickets, that's completely untrue. There aren't many people in boxing
that make more money than Oscar de la Hoya."
Of course, the most important
thing for big time players in this business is that they can "go" in the
ring. Triple H, The Rock, Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, and
Stone Cold Steve Austin can do it all in the ring. But then again, so can
The Hurricane. In the old WCW, he resurrected the Cruiserweight
Division. Since coming to WWE, he's consistently performed at a high
level, and most importantly, when called on to wrestle established main-eventers
like The Rock, Triple H, Ric Flair, and Chris Jericho, he exceeded all
expectations.
"When I was asked to step up to the plate for those big
matches, I think I performed way better than expected. When I had my match
with The Rock, there were a lot of people that stayed and watched backstage to
see what I could do. When I came back through the curtain, they were there
for me, and there were hugs. They said they were really proud of me which
made me even more proud of myself."
One thing that may have hindered The
Hurricane's progress, ironically, is that he is so good doing vignettes that
people don't always focus on his wrestling ability.
"I think that recent
events with my matches reminded people that I am a good wrestler," he
says. "The thing is, The Hurricane was so entertaining that I didn't need
to wrestle for a long time. I could do just the vignettes, and people
would be happy. People just wanted me to do crazy stuff backstage. I
proved how entertaining I could be. One drawback, though, might have been
that I might have gotten lost or pigeonholed as an 'entertainer' and not as a
wrestler. But lately, I've reminded everyone that The Hurricane can
perform in the ring with the best of them. After competing with the guys I
have, I've show I'm just as good as anyone."
So is Helms angry or frustrated
that he hasn't received his chance?
"It's a bummer, personally, but I
understand the business. There were guys that came in who are big money -
like Goldberg- and I understand that. I've got a long career ahead of
me. There are some guys who don't, so I'm not too worried. So I
think that's part of it, too. The Hurricane will always be here. I'm
patient, but my patience isn't endless. I definitely think you are going
to see me in a championship match soon.
"To get a championship match,
something serious will have to happen. There might be less shenanigans and
a little more in-ring work, but I don't think I have to change. I want to
be the guy that people can look up to. I want people to say, 'This guy's a
good guy. He's never let us down.' We've got so many people in the
sports and entertainment arena who get caught doing crazy things, and it's a
real letdown. I never want to be that guy. I want to be the guy who
is always positive."
There's little doubt that Helms has taken The Hurricane
to levels that few thought he could. The first time he appeared on
television many thought it was character that couldn't last. Helms, of
course, believed otherwise.
"I think you could have given this Hurricane
character to 100 guys and they couldn't have pulled it off. But what's
special about The Hurricane is that it's something that is genuinely fun.
I'm not just going out there and doing a job. I enjoy it. I think
that you can tell the guys who are just going through the motions and their
hearts aren't in it. I'm 150 percent all day long, and people can tell
that, and they know I'm out there having fun."
But as Helms is quick to point
out, there's much more to him than having fun. Earlier this year he made
some important strides. He beat The Rock and went toe-to-toe with Triple H
and Chris Jericho. He also scored a victory over his boyhood idol Ric
Flair. The next step is to challenge for and win the World
Championship. The Hurricane has earned that chance and whoever is standing
in his way needs to step aside or confront him face to face and settle their
differences in the ring.
The Hurricane deserves a World Championship
match. He knows it, his fans know it, and the rest of the Raw locker room
knows it. The question is, when will he get it?

His win over The Rock on Raw wasn't necessarily a fluke. At least
he's hoping that it's not. Strong recent outings against Triple H and
Chris Jericho have this superhero believing he can win the biggest of
prizes.

Look up the word "Hurricane" in any dictionary and you're apt to find
it described as either a severe tropical storm or cyclone,
as something that is likely to have originated somewhere in the Caribbean, and
as an entity having a wind velocity of 75 miles per hour or more.
We have
some problems with that definition. Four, in fact. First, we know of
a Hurricane who isn't particularly severe (he's kind of a nice guy), isn't
exactly tropical (our Hurricane probably uses a lot of sunscreen when he's
outdoors), and definitely didn't originate in the Caribbean (more like
landlocked Raleigh, North Carolina). Also, our Hurricane doesn't exactly
stir up winds in excess of 75 miles per hour. Instead, when our Hurricane
jumps into their air to make his campy escapes from backstage skits, he
probably tops out at two or three miles per hour.
A walking wind tunnel he is
not.
That's okay, though. A wrestler doesn't have to be an
ultra-destructive tool of Mother Nature to gain his peers' respect. He
doesn't even need superstar size and muscles (although they do help). All
he needs to do is show a little heart -and lately, Hurricane's been showing a
lot of heart in a very big way. Over the past few months, he's gone from
being an entertaining mid-carder to a wrestler with an occasional spot in WWE's
top tier. He's made Ric Flair, Chris Jericho, The Rock, and even Triple-H
look foolish on occasion, and in doing so, he's put them on notice that if they
don't treat him with respect he'll take his cape and crusade all over
them.
"The kid has a lot of spunk, and he refuses to back down with anyone,"
said Al Snow. "He's stood up to just about every top star on Raw, and he
refuses to be intimidated. There are guys twice his size who haven't shown
that kind of resolve and passion. He deserves every accolade he's been
receiving."
Hurricane does deserve the accolades, because his current status
as WWE's most courageous competitor is all his doing -and boy did he pick the
perfect person to help him kickstart the journey. When The Rock returned
to Raw in late February, Hurricane was there waiting for him. The
green-clad would-be superhero questioned Rock about anything and everything,
including his motives for turning against the fans. It was almost if
Hurricane was acting as Rock's conscience, and it was immediately noticeable
that the two wrestlers had a chemistry together. Rock probably didn't want
Hurricane in his locker room picking his brain, but you could tell that he
wasn't overly upset with Hurricane, either. They were like two buddies who
couldn't help but argue.
Hurricane's persistence paid off with a March 10
with The Rock - Raw's main event for the evening. And thanks to a little
help from one "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Hurricane scored the biggest win of his
career. The Hurricane had vanquished The Scorpion
King!
Unfortunately, Hurricane's good fortune didn't last long.
On March 31 Raw, he faced off with Raw champion Triple H in a non-title match,
and Ric Flair's constant interference prevented Hurricane from scoring a
pinfall. There was a ton of near-falls, though, and by the time the match
was over, our Hurricane had gained some stature despite walking away with the
loss. Two weeks later, he was in his second main event in just over a
month, this time in a tag match with Booker T against Helmsley and Flair.
Hurricane got the winning pinfall (with a little help from Shawn Michaels) over
the legendary Flair.
"That result shocked a lot of people," said Snow.
"Before the match began, he was viewed as the weakest of the four wrestlers
involved and certainly the wrestler most likely to lose the match for his
teammate. That win cast a lot of doubters aside."
In spite of the two
main event wins, Hurricane still had critics questioning his durability.
In order to silence them, Hurricane needed to prove that he could compete at the
top level without losing momentum. He needed to show the fans and, most
importantly, the other wrestlers in the back that he could wrestle a main-event
level match on a weekly basis.
Enter Chris Jericho.
One week removed from
his tag team victory, Hurricane met Jericho in Atlanta, and the two former WCW
talents did what WCW had so much trouble doing in the final years: They
rocked the crowd. Both men took turns controlling the action, with Jericho
getting a near-submission early, and Hurricane getting two of his own
near-falls, one after a DDT and another after a Hurri-choke slam.
Unfortunately for Hurricane, Jericho escaped both pin attempts and secured
the win with the Walls of Jericho.
"The
Hurricane might be a superhero, but he isn't the king of the world," mocked
Jericho. "I'll give him this, though: He's a dangerous little
rant. You look at him in that ridiculous green getup, complete with green
hair and cape, and you wonder why in the world you should take him
seriously. But then you begin wrestling him, and you realize that maybe
this whole superhero thing is meant to throw you off, to make you
lackadaisical. He might be more tricky than that ridiculous costume
indicates."
Did Jericho just figure The Hurricane out? Is that costume,
as comical as it is, meant to give him an advantage? Is it designed for
effect? Or is it just a costume? And does it matter? Hurricane
is a wrestler in WWE - that means he's one of the best in the world.
Costume or no costume, his opponents need to take him seriously. If they
don't, Hurricane will shock them with win after win after win -and his opponents
will have no one to blame but themselves, because in WWE, superpowers don't win
matches.
But heart does.

Hurricane Comments on Goldberg's
Arrival
Its something that I thought would never actually happen, from
knowing Goldberg in our WCW days. I'm not against it. I think he's got a lot to
add. I'm a believer that if the fans want to see something bad enough, then
we've got to give it to them. I think the fans are waiting to see him, so bring
him on!

Matt Hardy mentions Hurricane on his latest
commentary
Matt : Speaking of awesome, how awesome were the verbal battles
between The Hurricane and The Rock a couple weeks ago? As many of you know, The
Hurricane -- Shane Helms -- is one of my closest friends, and I was ecstatic to
see him work with the Rock. Rocky, who verbally went toe- to-toe with the
superhero, never fails to deliver, nor did Shane. Their confrontations had me in
stitches, and led to a great match that even including the Hurri-chokeslam.
Congrats to Hurricane for picking up a win over the Great One--that's how we
North Carolina boys do it.
Shane Helms Celebrates 3 Years as a Pro
Shane made his debut Dec. 23rd, 1999. I remember Shane walking
down the ramp with this cocky attitude. The kind of attitude when a
wrestler believes in himself, and I thought alright, show me. He climbed in the
ring and blew me away. I was an instant fan. The intensity, the consistency, and
his mastered skills left me in awe. His style was unique and only made me want
to see more. 3 Count was a stepping stone and a time for Shane to evolve. When
he became Sugar Shane he was coming into his own. Each and every match
leading Shane to his first WCW Cruiser Weight title, were some of the
greatest cruiser weight matches I have ever seen. The energy of the matches and
the love of the sport Shane had radiated onto his fans. Now, Shane is "The
Hurricane" and what a great job he is doing. His character is interesting and
entertaining while his matches are filled with an arsenal of wrestling
moves. He now has thousands of fans and has come so far and the best is
yet to come. I am proud to be a fan of one of the most talented wrestlers at WWE
and of such a nice guy.

In the back, Rock looks around his dressing room, saying that it is a poor excuse for a star. No wonder Jim Thome left. Rock picks up his guitar and plays a song about how much Cleveland sucks. Some one comes in, and Rock asks if they are ready to go one-on-one with the Great One. The camera pans over and we see that he has challenged The Hurricane. Helms asks if Rock is ready to go toe-to-toe with the Superhero. Rock says that he's ready and excited, because it's going to be a No DQ match, allowing all superpowers. Rock asks what superpowers The Hurricane has that he can bring. Helms says that he has HurriPowers, bitch. Rock says that reminds him why he wants to whip Helms' ass. First he talked trash about Booker T throwing Rock out of the ring, then he talks about Rock being scared of Stone Cold. But this is the biggest night of the Hurricane's life. He knows Hurricane will bring it, so he offers good luck. They shake hands, and Rock decks Helms.
The VerteBreaker....BANNED!
- Hurricane recently
participated in a radio interview in which he revealed that WWE was putting an
end to the "vertebreaker" finisher, which he has used in the past. For those
that don't know, the move is basically one where the wrestler holds his opponent
upside down, back- to-back, using his arms, driving his opponent into the mat by
dropping him to the seated position with the opponent landing on the back of
their neck. This is likely to protect against all the neck injuries that various
superstars have been suffering lately.
