1 A.D.

“Tomorrow is 1 A.D.” – The message flashed on the computer screen of the unidentified celestial object named ‘CONBHAJAN’ in the unknown space approaching the earth at an enormous speed. Three robotic spirits working on a mission called ‘OPERATION PARTIAL DEATH’ were in search of a unique life, yet to be born – at a specific time 00:00:00 between 1 B.C. and 1 A.D. Were they looking for me?

I lay unborn on the bank of the river of life, looking at the starless sky. From somewhere beyond the horizon, came a bright flying object emitting electromagnetic rays which in no time trapped me in a translucent Web with total vacuum all around. My power to move was gone. I could only feel them; perhaps, they were spirits, I was instantly blinded. ... Read on

E-Commerce: The HR Dimension

So, will e-commerce take over human assets? - is a question to ponder upon. Those assets, which will lose out on information, will ultimately perish. Train to Allahabad

I am writing this on what will perhaps be my last journey from my home to this land. I will be entering my final semester of studies and it seems a culmination of a process that  began 3 and a half years ago. A lot many things have changed since; governments have come and governments have gone, the PMO has been occupied by a new person every year, the prices of onions and potatoes have skyrocketed and I should mention the 25percent hike in the train fare, all thanks to our esteemed money sharks (read finance ministers) who have made invaluable contributions towards making “the common man” more so. Almost every journey of mine has had two recurring thoughts – that while one half of my life has gone by waiting for a train, the other half has been spent in the train itself. Undoubtedly, such extreme thoughts stem from the hugely successful attempts of the Indian Railways in making IST an acronym for ‘Indian Stretchable Time. I can readily imagine that the bonzer who said ‘Time is Money’; who have coined the phrase while at a railway station, in much the same uncomfortable situation I inevitable find myself in every time I travel. So much so, I sometimes wish I were back at school now. I could now do such a wonderful job of writing an essay describing the scene at a railway platform ... Read on

HR Practices for Knowledge Workers

It is ironical that the very market value which an IT company creates for its’ employees, makes it conducive for them to leave. An attempt by HR mangers of IT companies to give some other value(s), apart from market value and to influence the society at large, by influencing the employee and his/her family would not only help retaining better human resources but also reshaping the ‘man’ part of ‘man’agement ...
