SUJI: A life that was MNR

Power and Pani

Two P’s – Power & Pani – go together in MNR. If the first ‘P’ vanishes, the other one soon follows. In recent years, the power situation has really been grim. All this is due to the use of old transformer, improper wiring, and theft of power. Imagine how your room on a hot summer becomes a blast furnace when the power goes off! How frustrating could it be to wake up and find the bathrooms without water? Think of a night when the mosquitoes play their orchestra in your ears. Courtesy – No power. If you are fond of candle light dinners, then you would have ample of the, at the mess. That’s free  … sponsored by the UPSEB – Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board. And, yes take no chances, the probability of a powerless night before the semester exam is quite high. The fact is that I gave the first 3 exams of my fifth semester (in December1997) without power. The condition worsened after a lathicharge when the students came on to the roads to protest against regular power cuts everyday for over a month (August 1998)

However, the generator connection has given some relief for there loks now a ray of light in darkness.

What else can be said about the water situation? It’s no better. Recently, questions have been raised about the purity of the drinking water. Well, if you say that all the water that you drink was from the nearby Ganga, then Ganga was never so dirty ever before. And finally, a word on the coolers and geysers – they are so cold that nothing can be cooler and they are so hot that nothing can be hotter.
