The structure of matter is well described by the Standard Model of particle physics. All the particles, except one, in the Standard Model have been discovered. The hunt for this particle, called the Higgs boson, is a major experimental high energy physics programme. Theoretically, the fundamental mechanism is described by a particle in a w-shaped potential. Here the glass bowl is an artistic representation of that potential and the marble inside is indicative of the boson. The last marble to be picked ! |
