Daylight has always been associated with knowledge and darkness of the night with obscurity. Reality could not have been more different. Daytime sky is an illusion caused by the scattering of sunlight by the atmosphere. Our true situation, of being a “speck”, in the vast universe, is more accurately perceived at night. Information about the distant stars and galaxies is obtained by studying the light spectra of these objects. These spectra reveal the reality by lifting the illusory curtain of the daytime. |
