POSSESSION :: CHAPTER THREE

Jason walked into Stone's room. He saw Carly putting sheets onto the bed and couldn't help but laugh. "When did you become so domestic?"

Carly looked over at him and smiled. "When I got married, remember?" She said flashing her ring at him. She was dressed in a black silk nightgown that was tight and low cut.

Jason shook his head and tried to fight back the anger he felt. "Just leave it alone, Carly." He walked over to her and pulled the sheet from her hand roughly.

Carly looked up at him in surprise. "Well what made you so grumpy?" She laughed and continued tucking the sheets in. "Sonny put you to work right away?" She assumed his mood had to do with business. Although Sonny tried to keep her out of the loop she was aware of how out of control things were getting with Sorel. Which is one of the reasons she agreed to let Bobbie take Michael to Florida with her and Roy.

He pinched his nose and felt closed his eyes. He had no right to be angry at her and she certainly didnt deserve him snapping at her. He let out a deep breath to calm himself. "Yeah I'm going to be pretty busy."

"That's too bad. I was really hoping that you could spend some time with me and Michael while you were here. God Jase, he's getting so big, you wont even believe it." She told him proudly.

He watched her quietly as she made his bed. Her long blonde hair was messy and still damp from her shower. She had washed all her makeup off and it made her look like a teenager. But her body... Jason could see every sensuous curve that the black satin was clinging to. And as she bent over the bed he could see just enough of her breasts to make his heart start racing. It had been years since he had slept with her but he still remembered every inch of her body. Every single freckle and every beautiful curve. He swallowed hard.

"Well are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me?" She was looking at him with an amused expression on her face and her hands were placed on her hips. She noticed the look on his face and she had to keep herself from blushing. She suddenly wished that she had worn her robe over her nightgown. Chill out, Carly...he's just tired. Jason is the last person in the world who thinks of you that way.

Jason moved over to the opposite side of the bed and started helping her tuck in the sheets. He watched her quietly. She seemed so at peace. More than he had ever seen her before.

"Do you remember the night Michael was born?" She didnt wait for his answer. "I was sleeping in this bed and woke up in pain. God, there was so much blood. And this guy, this really great guy, he carried my enormous pregnant self out of the penthouse, down the elevator, to the limo, and into the Emergency Room." She laughed. "I'm surprised your arms didnt break."

Jason smiled at her. "Well all I could think about was making sure you and the baby were okay. I wasnt really thinking about anything else. But..." He stopped and looked across the bed at her.

"But what...?" She asked stopping to look back at him.

"You were pretty damn big." He said laughing.

Carly started laughing with him and grabbed one of the pillows off of the floor and threw it at him. "You are such as jerk!" She said smilling as he caught the pillow. They looked at each other for a few seconds, lost in their memories and enjoying each other's company. Carly walked around to the other side of the bed. "If you need anything else let me know." She placed her hand on his arm.

Jason nodded at her.

She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "Night Jase." She said as she walked out of the bedroom.

"Goodnight, Carly" he answered after she had closed the door.

He laid there for what seemed like hours. He wondered why this was so much harder than he had ever imagined it would be. Carly and Sonny in the next room. His hands exploring her body. Her smiling that special smile just for him. Sonny making love to her. Damn it, Jason. Stop NOW! he told himself. He rolled over onto his stomach and pulled his pillow over his head.

Jason woke in the middle of the night and decided to go downstairs for some water. When he reached the bottom he turned to go to the kitchen but then he saw her. She was sitting by the window looking out. Her face was radiant in the moonlight and her knees were curled up against her chest. He walked over to her slowly. "Carly..." he said softly, not wanting to startle her.

Carly didnt jump. She could feel him as soon as he walked down the stairs. She wondered if things would ever change between them, if it would ever even be possible that they could be strangers. She looked up at him and smiled. Her smile widened as she saw that he was shirtless and she took a few moments to enjoy looking at him. He could still take her breath away. "Hey you." She said softly. She patted the spot next to her on the window seat.

He sat down, confused. "Are you okay?" He asked her gently.

She looked back out the window and nodded. "I just have trouble sleeping whenever he's gone." She said quietly.

Jason reached over and touched her cheek. "I know how that feels." He reponded softly.

She leaned into his touch. "I know. I dont think there's anyone else in this whole world that loves him as much as you and I do. Don't think I've forgotten that."

He looked down and let his hand fall. Jason had tried for along time to forget about both of them. He had come to accept that he had lost them but found some comfort in the fact that they were happy and safe. He wondered if it was selfish of him that it wasnt enough. If it was selfish to want them to be happy with him and not Sonny. "The entire time I was gone, there wasnt a day I didnt think about Michael." He said still looking at his hands. "Or you.."

Carly turned her head to look at him, tears gathering in her eyes. "Oh Jase, I'm so sorry that things turned out this way. I never meant to hurt you as much as I have."

He nodded, knowing that she was right. "It's enough that you two are happy here. That Sonny is good to you and he takes care of you."

Carly reached over and touched his face. "You sound like me. I think I said those exact words one time to Lila."

Jason looked over at her. "When?" He asked.

Carly let her hand drop and turned on the seat so that she was facing him. "When I was married to AJ and so desperately in love with you. I asked her if it was enough. You know, that Michael seemed to be happy and that he had a secure home. If it was wrong for me to want more." She stopped suddenly. She felt herself being pulled towards him as the memories of that time came back to her. "If it was wrong to want to play pool and slow dance. If it was wrong to dream of the time you were holding Michael in the water and how proud I felt to know that I had given him the best. She saw Jason look at her sadly. "I told Lila how you had the most beautiful heart. That's still true Jason, all of it. Nothing can ever change that or take it away."

Jason reached out to her and brushed a tear from her cheek. "What did she tell you?" His voice was a whisper.

"That she didnt know how I was feeling, because...." Carly broke off, too afraid to say anymore. God, were Lila's words right even now? No I love Sonny she told herself, but everytime she looked at Jason she felt her heart ache for him a little more.

Jason brought his other hand to her face and looked into her eyes. He could see the fear in her eyes and wondered what she was afraid of telling him. "Because why?"

"...because she was married to the man she loves." Her eyes were full of tears and her face was sad.

Jason dropped his hands suddenly as if she had burned him. "Well now so are you." He said roughly and walked away.

Sonny opened his eyes and saw Carly sitting on the side of the bed. "Hey there." He said with a smile. He reached up to her and pulled her down to kiss her on the mouth.

Carly smiled brightly at him as she leaned back. "Good morning." She looked at her hands which were fidgeting nervously in her lap. She couldnt even begin to think of how she was going to approach this topic with him. So she leaned down and snuggled up next to him.

"You feeling hungry this morning?" He asked giving her a sly grin. "Cause I am.." He rolled her over and started kissing her neck.

Carly laughed. "Actually there's something I want to talk to you about." She said as he trailed kisses on her neck and collarbone.

"I'm listening..." He groaned into her skin.

Best to get straight to the point Carly. "It's about, Jason." She said as casually as possible.

Sonny stopped kissing her and rolled over onto his back, groaning. "What are you planning to do to poor Jason now?" He asked sourly. The last thing he needed right now was Carly focusing all her energy on messing things up for Jason when he had just come back to them.

"It's not what I want to do to him..." She realized how bad that sounded as soon as she said it. "It's what I want to do for him." She laid on her side so that her face was next to his.

"I dont know if I want to hear this..." Sonny said.

"I want to give him joint custody of Michael." There she said it. It was out in the open and she was ready to deal with whatever Sonny had to throw at her.

Sonny ran his hand over his mouth. That was about the last thing he had expected to come out of her mouth. Hell, he would have been less surprised if she told him that she and Jason were leaving for Hawaii that afternoon and she wanted a divorce. But would you really be that surprised? his mind asked him accusingly. Sonny shook his head to clear his mind of that thought. "What does Jason think about that?" He asked cautiously.

Carly shrugged. "I don't know yet. I wanted to run it by you first." She was surprised that he hadnt started yelling as soon as the words came out. Maybe this was a good thing.

Sonny laid there in silence for a few minutes. "Michael is your son." He said finally. "If you want to share him with Jason, that's your choice. But Carly I will not accept this unless you're completely sure about it. Jason has been through hell and back already with that kid and I dont want to see him hurt anymore because of it."

She winced at Sonny's words. She knew Jason had been heartbroken when Michael was taken from him and that she was to blame, but to hear it come from Sonny hurt more than she thought it would. She let out a puff of air. "I'm doing this to make things right for Jason, not to hurt him." She said sincerly.

Sonny looked down. "I know you are Carly. But what if Jason isnt planning on staying in town very long this time. What if he just up and leaves again, how would that make Michael feel?"

"Jason would never hurt Michael." She said with conviction. "He loves Michael more than anything in the world and if he doesnt plan on staying in Port Charles then I'm sure he'll tell me no." She put her hand on his cheek and smiled at him. "But I dont think I can live with myself if I don't at least try. If I dont try to make up for all the ways that I hurt him." Her eyes began to get teary.

Sonny was taken aback by her words. He had never been as attached to Michael as Jason was but it still hurt him a little that Carly wanted to make another man the father of her son. But he had hurt Jason too. He had almost killed him when he had taken her away, maybe giving him Michael back was a way of them both making it up to Jason. He touched her cheek gently. "You sure this is what you want?"

She smiled at him happily and kissed him. "More than anything in the world."
