Kuala Lumpur, 3 October 2000: " Stars Of The Musicals", the first ever London's West End musical theatre production to appear in Malaysia, will be staged at Stadium Putra at the National Sports Centre in Bukit Jalil. Scheduled to run for six consecutive nights starting from 12 to 17 January 2001, the show venue is able to seat over 9,000 spectators per night. With the huge capacity, this promises to be a large-scale production that is rarely seen, even in Europe. Presented by Celcom and Malaysia Airlines in association with SW Show Productions and Visi Art 21 by arrangement with West End International (London) Limited, "Stars Of The Musicals" aims to reach out to as many people as possible to inculcate greater appreciation for musical theatre amongst fellow Malaysians. Said Shireen Woon of SW Show Productions: "With the large capacity at Stadium Putra, we are able to price the tickets at affordable levels to suit Malaysians from all walks of life." There will be four basic categories of tickets priced from RM100 for gallery seats and RM250 for balcony seats to RM350 for dress circle and stall seats as well as RM500 for premier seats. In addition, limited numbers of royal premiere seats going at RM2,000 a-seat will also be available. Families can look forward to special packages for two adults and two children below 12 priced at RM200 for gallery seats and RM500 for balcony seats. To encourage early bookings, early bird incentives are also offered so that the public can take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Purchases made before 15 November will be entitled to a 20 per cent discount while those made before 15 December will enjoy a 10 per cent discount. These discounts are only applicable to gallery, balcony, dress circle, and stalls ( except for gala charity nights ) seats. Members of the public are advised to start placing their bookings early from today by calling Axcess at 03-705 3000. To further promote this once-in-a-lifetime event, the organisers are bringing two lead cast members of the musical for a special,one-shot appearance in Kuala Lumpur from 16 to 18 October, namely Joanna Ampil and Simon Bowman. Joanna is currently starring as Eponine in Les Miserables in London. Recognised as one of the best Asian artiste ever the hit the West End stage, Joanna was chosen to play the lead role of Kim in Miss Saigon at the young,tender age of 17. Simon, on the other hand, is presently playing the role Jean in Les Miserables. He created the role of Chris in the original production of Miss Saigon and also played both the Phantom and Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera. "Stars of the Musicals" is a grand musical medley comprising notable and popular excerpts from celebrated musicals that has been performed at London's West End including Les Miserables, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, The Lion King, Starlight Express, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard, Chess, Carousel, The King and I, Mamma Mia, Chigago and Fosse. Helmed by the acclaimed musical director, Martin Yates, the musical theatre will star major leads from West End including Joanna Ampil, Simon Bowman, Katrina Murphy, Andrew Halliday, Paulette Ivory and Sally Ann Triplet, supported by an 18-member ensemble cast. |
