Home of the DMR-ES35V, DMR-ES45V, DMR-EZ37V and DMR-EZ47V
DMR-EZ37V. Cons - When playing back on other DVD players, there is picture and sound skip every minute and 3 seconds; the VISS indexing feature, which attempts to makes Titles and Chapters for your home videos, makes a mess of things when you try to copy old home videos to DVD. Pros - Makes a helluva beautiful picture.
DCR-8320N. Cons - Records a dark picture off satellite receiver and darkens your home videos to the point where they're nearly unwatchable. It also isn't able to deal with signal interference, and this shows up in your recordings as a series of vertical bands that roll continuously from right to left on your screen during recording and playback. Pros - Other it plays back flawlessly and it records your video tapes continuously, without using VISS to try and insert chapters.
LG Portable DVD Player with JVC Marshmallow earphones
This unit by LG is damn-near perfect: the screen has twice the resolution (w x h pixels) as most other portable players. The price was highly competitive. My one complaint: the volume knob cannot be cranked high enough to provide good sound when there is room noise. Solution: JVC Marshmallow earphones. You squeeze the marshmallows and stick them deep into each ear, where they expand after a few seconds, sealing you off from the outside world. These earphones were the perfect solution for me because they aren't vented either, which means that your sound doesn't escape -- it's driven straight into your ears. The downside of which is you could experience hearing loss if you abuse them. For $20, the JVC Marshmallows are unbeatable.
