Alpha and Omega - adj  - The Beginning and the End

Something was banging on his door. Something, or someone. It was incessant, loud and pounding. Like a headache. It was noise to his ears. He stared at the door in front of him, biting down on his thumb, wondering if he should answer it, for he knew full well who it would be, knocking at his chamber door. The pounding continued, this time fully punctuated with loud, boisterous calls from outside in order to bring him to answer it. But he couldn't will himself to open it. He knew what would be standing before him and he wasn't sure if he could take what his eyes would come across. His teeth grazed the sweet, salty skin that was his thumb and gnawed nervously at it, his heart picking up considerable pace and his mind ticking at a million miles a second, whizzing past like a fugitive car.

Two thoughts went through his head as the pounding still remained.

Open it. You know it's him. You want to see him.

Leave it. You don't want to see him.

He could hear the yelling and pounding that seemed to have raised considerable decibels as his mind reeled at the thoughts. He heard his voice, the voice that was usually so soft and sweet, yelling at him from the outside.

"Kevin! What the fuck? Open the goddamn door! NOW!"

No. I hate you.

Kevin peered through the curtains of his room and saw a sunny, happy day, complete with a bright yellow sun and a blue cloudless sky. Ironic, it was. He wasn't feeling happy. Matter of fact, he couldn't remember the last time he was happy. Whenever he looked at someone, he always imagined that the eyes that looked back at him were of malevolence and disgust. Maybe he was paranoid but he also held a little disgust for himself, for what he was and what he was doing. He held out his wrist and stared down at the tiny white and pink scars that were tell-tale signs of unhappiness and a hate for life. His life, and everything that was within it. All except one thing. Well, he wasn't sure if that one thing could make him happy anymore. Or maybe it would, if he gave it the chance.

He closed his eyes and concentrated on breathing deeply. Inhale, exhale. Simple. So he tried, and he was successful. And the pounding on the door was still rampant, each pound with the fist echoing through the room like a deep and growling rumble of thunder. Angry, and full of rage. The yelling continued. "Kevin, if you don't open this door right now!"

Finally, after a few unsuccessful attempts to yell back, Kevin found his voice, and it was unusually strong and clear. "Fuck off, Nick! I'm not opening the door, not even for you!"

There, I said it.

But that didn't make it go away. His defiance to Nick's request only made Nick more infuriated. But Kevin didn't seem to care. No, he didn't care. He only cared about one thing and that one thing seemed to be diminishing greatly these days, and there was nothing he could do to stop it from retrenching from his grasp. Everything seemed to be spiraling backwards, like he was in another world where nothing went right and everyone seemed to hold an extreme hate against him. Just like the blonde that was screaming now hysterically and bashing on the door. Blonde. Kevin loved his blonde, silky hair. He loved the way that it felt between his fingers. He loved the softness of his skin. He loved the innocence of his voice. He loved the way the he could just tell him absolutely anything and he understood. Although, that all seemed to be changing lately.

"Kevin, open the fucking door!"

Kevin didn't even bother to reply this time, he simply sat down on the couch, covering his ears to drown out the screaming, angry voice and pounding fist on the door. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. A breath. Breathe. He needed to breathe and cease his racing heart that felt as though it was going to jump right out of his chest and plop onto the beige carpet before his very green eyes. He lowered his head, still with hands covering ears, and squeezed his eyes shut before rocking slowly back and forth against the slick leather of the couch.

"Open the door!"

And, once again, Kevin refused to answer the demands of Nick, though his patience was running thin and almost on empty. His patience had been tried and tested over the years, but no one tested him as far as Nick had, or would, or even tried to. Nick always tormented and pushed Kevin to the brink of cruel violence, and Nick knew exactly what to do to make Kevin that way. No one knew why, though Kevin was sure that they were all questioning it silently, especially when their tempers and fists came to a point that was almost like a Western shoot-out. Instead of standing on a dirt road, several feet apart with guns, they had always opted for an all-over-each-other physicality with extreme aggressive, violent methods to make each other suffer.

"Now!"

Kevin took his hands away from his ears and opened his eyes, thinking that maybe he should answer the door. Maybe then he could put an end to this, once and for all, forever. He tapped his foot in deliberation as the pounding and Nick's bellowing continued, beginning to imagine himself throwing the door open, grabbing Nick by the shirt and slamming him into a wall. Quickly. Hard. To take him by complete surprise. Kevin smiled eerily at the mental image. He could hurt Nick then. He could hurt Nick very badly. He could pin Nick's body with his own, knowing full well that he was the stronger one, and do absolutely anything he wanted to him that his imagination could think of, or desired. He could make Nick hurt. He could make Nick pain. He could make Nick suffer. He could, and so very easily, make Nick cry and scream and beg for mercy, and it would be only then that Kevin would be satisfied.

"That's it! I'm breaking this fucking door down, right now!"

Kevin quickly scrambled to his feet and ran over to the door, taking the perfect opportunity to live out the fantasy he'd dreamed of just moments ago, grabbed hold of the handle and threw the door open. He found Nick with his mouth half-open, ready to scream again, and his fist raised. Kevin's green eyes began to blaze with anger, and he slammed the door shut and pushed Nick away before hurling him against the hallway wall with one adroit motion. Nick's eyes were wide.

"What the fuck are you doing, little boy?" he screamed into Nick's face, his voice throwing hot fire against him.

"Little boy?" Nick screamed back and shoved Kevin off him before running at him and slamming him into the door. Nick quickly grabbed hold of Kevin's hands before Kevin could react and pinned them tightly to the door. "Listen here, asshole, I'm sick of your fucking shit and treating me like a little boy! I'm a man, you worthless piece of shit. A man!"

Kevin winced and struggled to get his arms free from Nick's grasp. Nick struggled to keep Kevin's arms in place, but he could only hold them there for so long. His arms began to slack off, and Kevin seemed to get stronger from it. Quickly raising his leg, Kevin kneed Nick solidly in the solar plexus , and Nick doubled over in pain. Kevin scowled down at Nick, who was clutching his stomach in agony.

"Oh, get up, you weak boy! You want to be treated like a man, little boy, then learn to take it like one!" Kevin yelled and grabbed Nick by the hair to pull him up and slammed him against the wall again, quickly pinning Nick's arms up in the way that Nick had done to him. Nick whimpered in pain. "You ain't much of a man, are you, little boy?"

Nick's eyes rolled backward and he squirmed within Kevin's aggressive and powerful gripping. "Get the fuck off me," he managed to say, amidst all the pain that was running through his body like electric currents. He tried again to push Kevin away, with all the might he had, but Kevin wouldn't budge and there was simply no way that Nick could fight him off. "Get off me!"

Kevin slammed him into the wall once more, and Nick yelped in agony. "You're no man, little boy," he said in a low and cold voice, his eyes throwing green icicles in Nick's direction. "You're a pathetic excuse, even for a little boy!"

"Fuck you, Kevin!" Nick yelled and this time, Nick raised his leg and did the same as Kevin had done to him, only this time Nick aimed for a place that would hurt so much more. Kevin cried out and slowly loosened his grip on Nick, and Nick took full opportunity of Kevin down. He grabbed Kevin by the shirt, pulled him up, and threw him against the door. His face twisted into a mask of anger.

"Who's the little boy now, huh?" Nick yelled. "Who?! "

"Little boy!"

Nick slammed Kevin into the door for the millionth time. "I'm not a fucking little boy, asshole! Say it!"

Kevin regained his composure from Nick kneeing him in quite a tender place, and stared resolutely into Nick's eyes, with no fear or trepidation. "You're a fucking little boy that needs to be fucking well hurt!" he yelled before throwing Nick off himself and pummeling Nick into the wall, quickly pinning his arms in place and maneuvering his legs between Nick's so that he could no longer take a quick hit when he needed to.

"I could hurt you so bad, Nick," Kevin hissed. "I could hurt you so bad, and I could do things to you that would make you scream and beg for mercy."

"You wouldn't," Nick hissed back, squirming again to get free.

"I could do a lot of things to you," Kevin continued to hiss into Nick's ear, "and no one would ever know. I could be done so quick, no one would ever find out what I'd do to you. And I'd make you hurt, little boy. I'd make you hurt so bad..."

Nick managed to get one hand free as Kevin was saying this, and reached out and punched Kevin squarely in the jaw. Kevin stumbled back and Nick raised his foot and kicked Kevin directly in the ribs. Kevin yelped loudly, holding onto the carpet and trying to scramble out of Nick's line of attack. Nick, however, was just getting started.

"Fuck you, asshole! Who's the little boy now, huh? Who can hurt who now, huh? You're a fucking weak, arrogant fuck!" With that came another kick to Kevin's ribs and another yelp, and suddenly out of nowhere, Brian came running down the hall.

Brian stopped and gasped at Kevin lying in pain on the floor. "What did you do to him?" he screamed at Nick.

"Nothing. The tough guy's fine."

Kevin managed to crawl closer to Nick, unbeknownst, and grabbed hold of Nick's ankle and pulled quickly, sending Nick to sail straight onto the carpet and onto his back. Nick froze for a moment, the wind knocked out of him, and he could barely breathe. Kevin, quickly, was scrambling on top of him, restraining him with his legs and arms.

"Don't fucking test me, little boy," he said angrily, his eyes glazed with fury and with pain. Just like Nick had done to him, Kevin raised his fist and brought it down quickly to Nick's face, but it suddenly came to a stop. Brian had caught Kevin's clenched fist in time.

"What're you doing?" Kevin screamed in Brian's face. "Let me hit him, let me hit him, let me fucking hit him!"

"No!" Brian screamed. "Stop it!"

This had given time for Nick to sit up and push Kevin onto his back, and suddenly, twisted together and fighting for supremacy, they were rolling across the carpet, back and forth, screaming obscenities at one another. They both tried in vain to hit each other, to hurt each other, and to gain control over the other, but all they did was continue to tumble in the hallway, their voices echoing through and their fists waving in the air madly.

"You're a weak piece of shit!"

"You're worthless!"

"You're dead, little boy!"

"I hate you! Get off me, asshole!"

Finally, it was a hard slam into a wall that broke them both apart. They both lay sprawled on the floor, in extreme pain and breathing heavily.

Howie and A.J., after hearing the yelling and the bout of furious fisticuffs against the wall from their own rooms, ran up beside Brian, who was staring down at the two boys in horror, his body somewhat frozen. "Oh my...." Brian trailed off.

"What's going on here?" A.J yelled.

"Are you two crazy?" Howie demanded, his dark eyes a raging inferno.

They stared down at the two men in disbelief as they now had their arms wrapped around each other, Nick sobbing into Kevin's shoulder, and Kevin stroking his hair soothingly and whispering, "I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry."
