Brothers and sisters, let us never again be deceived; let us never again be made into fools! We have been writing letters and making phone calls--if not for one cause, then for another--for too long. Brothers and sisters, we Muslims never learn. If indeed there is something to be learned from history, then the pathetic situation in Bosnia-Hercegovina should be a great learning experience for Muslim-Americans. This is the time to come to a common level of understanding.
It is actually the arms embargo which is hurting our people. We all know that the embargo is not affecting the Serbs at all; its effect has been the slaughter of the victims. Because of the arms embargo, the Muslims are not able to defend their land, mosques, or themselves. Because the Muslims don't have arms, the Serbs are able rape Muslim women in front of their families. Because the Muslims don't have arms, the Serbs are able to slaughter children and force the parents to drink their blood. If the Muslims could defend themselves this might not continue to happen. If our Bosnian brethren had arms, the honor of 60,000 Muslimas and lives of more than 200,000 defenseless civilians might today be safe. The embargo has done nothing but bring misery, death, destruction, and starvation to the people of Bosnia. The embargo is there to protect the assaulters, not the victims.
Brothers and sisters, let us all be prepared to die, but let us pray that none of us should have to endure the terrible sufferings that our Bosnian brethren have been going through. What has been going on in Bosnia is no less than the Holocaust revisited. But the world's powers are not blind. They are not as stupid and helpless as they would have us believe. It is in their best interests that the massacre continues, and they all support the arms embargo. The UNITED NATIONS is directly responsible for the arms embargo upon Bosnia. The arms embargo, we are told, has been imposed so that the war will not escalate. In effect, however, the embargo has allowed the Serbian aggressors to devour the Muslim victims in the shortest time possible. But is this unmeditated or premeditated? The UN has gone out of its way to maintain the embargo, in that it has had to violate its own charter, "Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations..." (UN Charter article 51). Moreover, the fact that nothing has been done since the unanimous (102 for, 0 against, 57 abstain) UN General assembly vote (#47/121 of December 18, 1992) to lift the arms embargo proves beyond doubt that in reality the UN carries only Western interests.
But it is difficult to believe that the US and the EUROPEAN ALLIANCE, who purport to stand for general welfare and have political clout, could not lift the arms embargo. After all, where is the energy now which masterminded the world protest of the invasion of Kuwait? None of the countries on the UN Security Council stand for truth or justice...they stand for their own prejudices and material interests. The world's fear of Islamic revivalism has allowed the Bosnian calamity to occur. Its interests are to eliminate the European Muslims and the world's only Muslim intellectual-leader, Alija Izetbegovic, the president of Bosnia-Herzegovina. He is the author of the popular book Islam Between East and West. Those who impose and support the arms embargo, including the UN, the US, and the European Alliance, are equally guilty of the crimes by Serbia.
Having established that actually it is the arms embargo which is killing the victims in Bosnia, and that Serbia, the UN, US, and European Alliance are equally responsible for the crisis, we must realize that it is foolish and useless to solicit the help of our enemies. If we would not ask the Serbs to help us, how can we write and phone call the UN or the members of its Security Council? Those who maintain the arms embargo are our enemies like the Serbs are. In fact, they are more dangerous because their sinistry is not readily apparent. Their threat to us is that they put on the guise of concern for truth and justice, and our people believe them. Our people have begun to think that the way to bring change is to get involved and have Muslim Congresspersons. But how can we get involved in a system which we know is corrupt, or at least ineffective? Look: Clinton made a campaign promise to lift the arms embargo, but after inauguration he accomplished nothing. If, for example, he pushes for unimpeded abortion rights, then what would our vote for him have done? We cannot compromise our Islam. If we cannot even envision having an Islamic State in America, then any efforts to infiltrate the political system are futile because they would not take us to our desired goal. There are better things we could be doing. Realize that it is useless and wrong to ask our enemies' help or get involved with their political systems to solve our problems.
But we must not loose our energy! We must simply redirect our efforts and remember that, as Muslims, we find our solutions in the Quran and sunnah only. We should not forget the stories of Abu Jandal and Abu Basir, who lived before the ummah (community) was strong, and suffered great hardships and persecutions. The Prophet (saaw) only enjoined patience upon them because he realized the ummah was weak. We do not even have an Islamic State, so unfortunately our Bosnian brethren must also be taught pa
