The Prayer (Salat)

  • God is the greatest.  [Allahü-Akbar]

  • O God, Thou art sanctified and we praise Thee.  Thy name is blessed, and Thy greatness is supreme.  None is worthy of worship except Thee.  [Subhana-Kalla-Huma...]

  • I seek the protection of God from the accursed Satan.  [A'üdzü-Billahee...]

  • In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful.  [Bis-Milla...]

  • Praise be to God, the cherisher and sustainer of the universe; the most gracious and most merciful; the master of the Day of Judgment.  [O God,] Thee only do we worship, and Thine aid only do we seek.  Show us the right path--the path of those upon whom Thou hast poured forth Thy grace; not of those who incur Thy wrath, nor of those who have gone astray.  [Alhumdü-Lillahee... (Quran 1:1-7)]

  • All salutations and prayers are due to God.  Peace be upon the Prophet [Muhammad], and the blessings of God, and His grace.  Peace be upon us and all the righteous servants of God.  I testify that there is none worthy of worship except God, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.  [Ath-Thahee-Yath...]

  • O God, bless Muhammad and his offspring as Thou blessed Abraham and his offspring.  Verily, Thou art worthy of praise and art the most magnificent.  O God, bestow Thy favors upon Muhammad and his offspring as Thou bestowed thy favors upon Abraham and his offspring.  Verily Thou art worthy of praise and art the most magnificent.  [Alla-Humma-Sallay-A'la...]

  • O God, I have done great wrong to myself, and none but Thee can forgive me my sins.  Hence, grant me forgiveness from Thyself and have mercy upon me.  Verily, Thou art the most forgiving, most merciful.  [Alla-Humma-Innee...]
