Does God Really Love You?
References from the Holy Quran about Allah's Love of Mankind

The following is a compilation of references from the Holy Quran--the Final Testament of God--in which Allah clearly tells us the types of people for whom He does and does not have love.  The references have been preserved in as much context as convenience has permitted.  The English renditions have been modified from Abdullah Yusuf Ali and Marmaduke Pickthal's translations.

In relation to the words of God, "
My mercy embraces all things.  [7:156]," the Islamic position about God's love can perhaps concisely be stated thus:  whereas God's mercy extends to every living thing--whether good or bad in behavior and in gratitude to Him--God's love falls upon only those people who follow His commandments.

A Message to Christians:  I believe it is no odd coincidence that the following references to love, a much discussed topic in Christendom, immediately follow Quranic stories about Jesus.

(55)  Behold!  Allah said, "O Jesus!  I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you of the falsehoods of those who blaspheme.  I will make those who follow you superior to those who reject faith until the Day of Resurrection.  Then will you all return to Me, and I will judge between you in the matters in which you dispute.  (56)  As for those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the world Hereafter.  They will they have no one to help them."  (57)  As to those who believe and works righteous deeds, Allah will pay them their full reward.  But Allah loves not those who do wrong.  (58)  This is what we rehearse to you (O Muhammad and believers) of the signs and the message of wisdom.  (59)  The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as the similitude of Adam.  He created him from dust and said to him, "Be!" and he was.  (60)  The truth comes from Allah alone, so be not of those who doubt.  [3:55-60]

(88)  They say, "Allah Most Gracious has begotten a son!"  (89)  Indeed you have put forth a thing most monstrous!  (90)  At it the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin, (91) that they should invoke a son to Allah Most Gracious.  (92)  For it is not consistent with the majesty of Allah Most Gracious that He should beget a son.  (93)  There is not one being in the heavens and the earth but it must come to Allah Most Gracious as a servant.  (94)  He takes account of them all and has numbered them exactly.  (95)  Every one of them will come to him singly on the Day of Judgment.  (96)
On those who believe and work deeds of righteousness will Allah Most Gracious bestow love.  [19:88-96]

Enjoin Good

(3)  Give tidings of a painful doom to those who disbelieve,  (4)  except those idolaters with whom you have a treaty and who have since abated nothing of your right, nor have supported anyone against you.  Fulfill your contracts with them until the end of their terms.  Allah loves the righteous.  [9:3-4]

On those who believe and do deeds of righteousness there is no blame for what was eaten in the past.  Therefore, be mindful of your duty and do good works.  Again, be mindful of your duty and believe.  Once again, be mindful of your duty and do right.
Allah loves the good.  [5:96 or 93]

(132)  And obey Allah and the Apostle so that you may obtain mercy.  (133)  Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord and for a Garden whose width is that of the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous, (134) those who spend freely whether in prosperity or in adversity, who restrain anger and pardon all people.  For,
Allah loves those who do good; (135) and those who, having done something to be ashamed of or having wronged their own souls, earnestly bring Allah to mind and ask for forgiveness for their sins--who forgives sins except Allah?--and those who will not knowingly repeat the wrong they did.  (136)  For such the reward is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath, an eternal dwelling.  How excellent a compensation for those who work and strive!  [3:132-136]

(9)  If two parties among the believers fall into a quarrel, make peace between them.  But if one of them transgresses beyond bounds against
