My Cybercon 2005 Report
(This report is for all our friends that were not able to make it to Cybercon this summer.)
Sparkplug, Myself as the Baroness and Spike
The Baroness with Peter Cullen
Thursday the 28th:
We had gotten a slow start, just resting around the house most the afternoon and enjoying the fact we didn't have to go to work for the next four days. So we never even left for New York until 3p.m . And since we do live close to Philadelphia PA it only took us a few hours to get out there, unfortunately due to traffic by time we got through the Lincoln Tunnel and to the hotel we'd spent another two hours. (Special thanks to our friend Jim for driving us out, he had the larger vehicle so offered to drive us out.) We had spotted Tony Preto, on our way out to get something to eat later that night. Then spent the rest of the night at Time Square, having a late dinner and taking lots of pictures. We had thought of going down to the convention area to set up, but decided to rest instead and get an early in the morning.
Jim and the Baroness
The Commander meets up with the Baroness
Friday the 29th:
After getting up early, having a fast breakfast in the hotel lobby talking again with Tony Preto a few more minutes. Tony, Jim and myself began our journey to the convention center. Carrying our totes with Jim's help to the convention center/church (The convention was actually held in a church as Jim later pointed out that weekend.) Getting in and finding our table we began to set up, my wondering around a bit to see who else was setting up for the show. Lucky for me I found my Skywarp soap dish! It's an item I've been looking for, for years. My weekend was already made just with that. Then it was out for lunch and to get my Baroness outfit together before the show began at 2p.m. Jim again was very nice in offering to stay with our stuff during that time, continuing to set up the table. When Tony and I got back, our long time friend Vin was already setting up at a table next to us. It was now time for the show to begin, I had gotten dressed up in my outfit a few minutes before the doors opened. The outfit was a big hit and due to that and the table I got a chance to meet many new fans that I hadn't met before. Took many pictures and sold quite a few items. Nether Tony nor I made it to the Panels that night, but I did go to the art room for a few minutes where I met a fan that would be dressing up as Spike later that night. Later that night I made it to the parts night for a bit before closing. Some noticeable outfits over the weekend were two Spike's (One with Sparkplug and one without.) Cobra Commander and a custom made Optimus Prime.
All said Friday night was wonderful, we had lots of fun. That evening some of our group members from Wheeljack's lab met up for dinner, which included Jason, Myself, Tony, Jim, Alex and his brother there. This is the first time Alex was actually able to join us in a group meal, it was really nice having him there and meeting his brother. Jason roomed with us for that night and two more of our friends Mike (fromWheeljack'slab) and Will (A fellow fan we'd met through Mike and Kyle the year before) joined us up in the room to watch season 2 Tf episodes. I myself was asleep half way through "Sea change" due to just being tired from the long day.
Vin and Tony
I'd met up with another Spike at the show
Saturday the 30th
Saturday it was another early day. Tony and I had left Jim and Jason still in their beds as we headed out. Stopping at Burger King along the way we had to get to the dealers room before 9am when the convention would be opening for the day. Meeting up with Vin that morning we laughed and hung out as the Organizers played a sermon that I'm sure was either recorder from a church service or they'd just been mocking what would have been said in a sermon. But it did sound real, very funny though with the added comments they would add now and then. After a while it began to drive us a bit crazy, but thankfully by time the fans started coming in to buy they ending the sermon.
I did dress up again later this day, many fans that I had seen the night before had asked me if I'd be dressing up again and since I did have an extra cat suit with me I did. It was cool because Cobra Commander came mostly dressed up that day, so we could get a picture together. He had not only his girlfriend with him he had a friend who had dressed up as Destro before. Destro hadn't wore his outfit that day, but in hopes perhaps someday we can all dress up at show together. I know I'll be keeping in contact with the two. I also got pictures with many other fans, a costumed Optimus Prime and Peter Cullen who also liked my outfit. This day I met up with my friend Linda a local area friend, who stood in line with me as we waited to see Peter and since she had to leave early that day she left her cam corder with me so we could get Peter's panel later that night. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't as many fans at the show and that the art contest wasn't as large as some I've seen in the past. But it was a very nice show, the organizers did a wonderful job. I did miss seeing the Hartmans there, but hopefully they'll be at Botcon and Pete Sinclair did take pictures of my outfit to share with Jon and Karl. The outfit was well liked and I was glad most knew who I was dressed up as. But there was one fan, that thought I was a Thundercat. He asked why I hadn't my cat ears on and then said "Aren't you a Thundercat?"
The Peter Cullen panel that night was very enjoyable. Afterwards we went for ice cream before going up to the room to watch G.I. Joe episodes for the night.
Sunday the 31st
Unfortunately it was time to head back home, but we did go to the Empire State building before heading back. And the trip was a fast one without to much traffic. After getting home Jim spent quite a few hours going over Joe figures with me since Tony and I plan to sell some extra items at Toy Town next weekend.
Hopefully I'll see most of you at either up coming Cybercon shows or Botcon in the fall.
Until then, Til All Are One.
