The grid covers on the beds are to keep the local population of stray cats out, which is, to a 'man' totally charmed by the idea of loose dirt and fragrant herbs, and unless boobytrapped, every bed is shredded, rolled in, and eaten. Ask me how I know sometimes (lol)
